HYROX Prep Without the Equipment
As I get ready for HYROX with my twin sis (9/3/26 DC), I’m working around not having access to rower, SkiErg, sandbags, or wall balls. I still want to train the same energy systems and movement patterns, so I’m subbing smart. Thinking things like treadmill intervals or assault bike for engine work, DB thrusters or med ball slams for wall balls, heavy lunges or carries for sandbags, and banded pulls or high-rep pull variations for SkiErg. For those who’ve trained HYROX without full equipment, what substitutions have worked best for you that actually carry over on race day?

Hey Germain! Thanks for your question! Just keep it simple and specific. Think in terms of patterns: - Pull (SkiErg) - Banded pulls or ring rows, smooth and continuous - Squat + press (wall balls) - DB thrusters, unbroken sets where possible - Carry/lunge (sandbags) - Heavy lunges + front rack or suitcase carries - Engine - Bike or run intervals that spike HR, then force yourself to work under it A key piece that most people miss is practicing transitions under fatigue. Go straight from engine into a movement with no rest so it mimics race demand. Keep us posted with your training for DC! 🚀

@Fiona Stephen Welcome to the gang Fiona! 🤩
Huge PB and gratitude!
Just wanted to share a quick note of gratitude with you all. Massive thanks to @Gustavo Vaz Tostes , @Chris Hinshaw and @Rhyss Murty I’m genuinely grateful to be part of this group and for everything I’ve learned over the past few months. I’ve gone from an 82 minute racer to sub 75 in just over three months, and that’s come down to the guidance, the structure, and actually applying what’s here. This is a seriously good platform. If you put the work in, go through the material properly and commit to it, the results will come. Appreciate you all.
Huge PB and gratitude!

No Hyrox for 7 months.
So I won’t be racing again until December. I would have liked to in June but Sydney race is one while I am in Canada watching the World Cup. Brisbane didn’t go as I wanted to but in all honesty went as well as expected. Due to my last 8 weeks of training being inconsistent after starting my football season My question is, this far out what is the best place to start? Do I try to rebuild raw strength, am I better doing longer steady state run and conditioning a couple of times a week? My main issue was pushing too hard first half and not having the capacity to back it up second half

Hey monsta! How are you? How many times are you training on top of your football? I agree with Rhyss above...I think you should focus on building your aerobic base. By the sounds of things, this is where you need to focus on if you want to be able to sustain your effort in the second half of your next Hyrox.
