@Mark Johnson Hi Mark, I'm Glen. I joined recently and saw you were looking forward to this session. If you got to attend, what stood out to you? I haven't been through one myself yet.
WHAT CODE ARE YOU RUNNING?
There is probably a sentence you have repeated about yourself so many times that you no longer hear it as a sentence. You hear it as truth. “I always quit.” “I’m terrible with money.” “I’m not confident.” “I overthink everything.” “I’m just not that kind of person.” “That’s who I am.” Those are the kinds of statements we examine here. For this thread, post one identity statement you catch yourself repeating. Then underneath it, rewrite it as a direction instead of a verdict. Example: Old code: “I always avoid conflict.” New code: “I am becoming someone who handles difficult conversations directly and respectfully.” Your turn. What code are you running—and what are you replacing it with?

Gwynne, thank you for sharing that so honestly. I hope the new wording gives you a little more kindness toward yourself as you keep learning. Wishing you well with the next small step.

Bo, changing a verdict into a direction is a useful distinction. For learning a skill, I like wording that leaves room for a specific next attempt. How do you help someone tell when their new statement is concrete enough to practice?
A direction gives me something to practice
Bo’s idea of rewriting a verdict as a direction makes sense to me as a learner. ‘I’m learning to explain this clearly’ gives me somewhere to go. It also leaves room to ask a question instead of pretending I already understand. I’m working on sales and practical AI, and I’d like my language to encourage the next useful attempt. How do you write a direction that stays specific enough to act on? What would you add to a phrase like ‘I’m becoming a clearer communicator’ so it points toward something observable?

Glen here, making better communication a practice
Hi Bo and everyone, I'm Glen. Your three-part introduction gives me a useful starting point. Today I'm someone learning sales and practical AI, with years of contracting behind me. I'm working toward becoming a clearer communicator who listens carefully and follows through. One piece of evidence I'd like to create is a practice explanation that another person can repeat back accurately. When you choose evidence for an identity like that, how small do you make the first step? I'd appreciate a concrete example.
