How beneficial is it as an Artist to learn all aspects of the marketing themselves vs adding a Team member specifically designed to focus on the marketing aspect of the Artist/brand. Especially with todays market where there is such a emphasise on self promotion. - Is it smarter to become the "Marketing Expert" yourself OR - Do you need the perspective of a Person who only focuses on being a Marketing Expert? With the way the game is changing, it seems like if you make rap music then it needs to have some kind of trap drums/808s on the beat. It’s like if you ain’t using melodies or a catchy flow; you might get overlooked. Long term however; it seems like being “different” can get stones thrown at you at first (Tyler, The Creator, for example) but if you’re brave enough to stick to it; it truly can pay off and then some.
