Is it the water ?
So in my quest to narrow my problems down, I was having a look at my seedlings. They are around about day 11 from germination and I’ve been adding my filtered water only. I noticed the dill had gone purple (and read it was a sign of stress). I also noticed some of the leaves slightly yellowing already. What I can’t remember is this normal? Do they look like healthy seedlings at day 11 or not? Tonight I added half strength nutrients. @Chad Miner what do you think? My previous seedlings I bought RO water and used that.

@Chad Miner should I get an aquatic RO system or drinking water RO system ?

@Beth E it’s not harmful to be but apparently it’s harmful to plants and it’s very hard to remove. Even a small amount can stunt their growth apparently. Someone has recommended an under sink inline filter which would be much cheaper

i know me too. The only thing that’s left is the water I’m using.

@Chad Miner I can’t control how wet it is unfortunately on the home tower as it’s set to indoor or outdoor and it’s automatic watering. I’ll buy the round sponge things you recommended. I think have eventually found the root cause (pun intended) of my issue now. I think it’s the water. My new seedlings are not thriving and my first bunch did thrive (I used RO water). My water filter company admitted the filter would not remove enough chloramine to be suitable for hydroponics. I’m gonna get an Ro system and do a full tank change and/or start again.
Basil
So I’ve heard basil grows really well on a tower garden. Mine is not. I have a few healthy leaves but the new ones coming in small and reaching maturity . They have this brown discoloured look to them. EC 1.6 and ph 6.0.

@Chad Miner I am still using the tower garden nutrients for the moment as I’ve seen great growth on others towers on YouTube and fb groups using them and because it’s the same concentration of nutrients for leafy greens and fruiting plants means I can grow them side by side although I realise I’m not going to get an optimum yield from my fruiting crops without extra lighting and GH nutrients. I defo care more about the leafy greens so if my tomatoes didn’t produce fruit I wouldn’t be too bothered. Just doing it as an experiment for my first grow. My tap water has both chlorine and chloramine so I got a carbon water filter fitted to my faucet. The company is called Tapp water filters. If I don’t get a good grow from moving my lights closer I think I might invest in an RO system. The only other thing that I’m doing differently is I’m using a ph up and down I found on Amazon because I couldn’t get the TG one in the uk.

My very sad looking snack pepper plant after two months of “growth”. Someone had told me my lights were not close enough as they were outside the cage so cage removed and right up close. Should I have the light on for 16 or 18 hours do you think? Yes hopefully with all this troubleshooting I’ll be a pro one day!

Sorry I just saw this. Can you explain how to use the flora series nutrients when you have multiple plants on your tower at different stages? Can I just put my plants in the shower when I clean my tower garden then stick them back in or is it better to start again and grow from seed again and put all new plants in? How often do you do top offs? How often do you empty out the reservoir and change all the water inside ?
Browning kale
For Chad, any idea what's causing the discoloration in our (older) TG plants? The pH has been slowly creeping up, but TDS is stable, and water level is as well. This is our kale, growing about a month and thriving. It's just begun this brown-ish presentation. Problem?

@Chad Miner have you ever used gold leaf nutrients ? It’s a one part fertiliser for hydroponics that has everything in it and it declorinates the water. Did you find a huge difference when you switched to the flora series? The only thing about it is I’m growing lots of leafy greens with some fruiting plants and everything is at different stages. The TG nutrients are 2ml per L no matter what stage whereas the flora series has specific nutrients for specific developmental stages
