Character names
I like to change the character names but I'm finding that if I do it before creating the story bible, it still keeps the original suggested names. I make sure to save the new names in the characters section. I have a couple of books where it starts with the original AI suggested names and then switches to my names. Just wondered if this is happening to anyone else?

This a back and forth dance. In the Story section, the AI will generate some character names. Here's what you do: 1. Make a list of all the names you want to change and what you want to change them to. 2. Regenerate the premise with the instruction (one per line): "rename X Y". 3. Regenerate each of the three story acts with the same set of instructions. 4. Move to character generation. Generate characters. They may not have the same names. 5. Edit each character and change his/her name. 6. Once you have done this for all the characters, edit each character again and click 'Regenerate' with no instructions. This will update the character relationships section. Teething issues.
Fighting Enshittification...
Hey @Zigmars Berzins , saw this article and thought it may be an interesting read as you continue to progress through your journey in building BookNova. https://ryanlevesque.net/the-shape-of-enshittification/?inf_contact_key=a471913e7dc2438edd92497808dd850c2ec2094b0cea6b68b61d0db7a8f697f7

@David Pack To be fair, Shakespeare and the King James Bible have unusual syntactic fingerprints and don't read human at all. As for Harry Potter, I think the sentence "....Dumbledore said calmly" appears over a thousand times across the seven books.

@Joe Wadas I think the twist ending discovery that God is a neural network the size of the Universe would be classic Philip K Dick style sci-fi material
First Book Done!
Well, the first book generated. I won't say it came out perfect. The description designated flash backs through the chapters, which did not happen. But am I pleased? So far. I ran the work through Auto Critique and came back with Story 86% Reader Fit 93% for an Alpha read and the highest chapter score of 97%. There are a few chapters a lot lower, but that would match how a person writes (lowest was 64% and the average was 81%) I'm doing the clean up run through that we all should do before completing the novel for publishing. Will let you know how it works out. Here are the asks I would like to see: 1 - Export/Import - I would like to see the ability to import and export from the site. Simple for some of the items like characters and outline. I found it clunky trying to go over the outline on the site to fine tune the chapters. The ability to export it as plain text or an XML markup would make it easier to go over the layout and add/remove things to make the work more personalized 2 - DOC/DOCX save - Having the ability to download the work in docx format would allow me to look at the work and make subtle changes that I would personally like to see, or to use the software I already own to personalize the "print ready" or "epub" format. I have my own layout for the copyright page and so forth that is my own preference. Please the software I have covers a lot of formatting that I don't think is in Book Nova (orphan control and such in print ready files). So it would be nice to have that. The copy/paste of each chapter is clunky for the tech enabled writer (though I do appreciate the huge amount of options available) I hope this comes across positive, for it is meant to be. The work so far on the site is huge and should be recognized. Thanks for that. This is just suggestions that I think could enhance the end user experience.

May I ask how exactly the description designated flashbacks through the chapters? The answer might hold the key to why it didn't happen. Flashbacks can take many forms, from dialogue one-liners to chapter-length stories. The picture you have in your head won't necessarily be the interpretation of another human person, let alone an AI platform. BookNova isn't a mind reader: the further you stray from traditional/conventional narrative format and structure, the more detailed and precise you need to be in your prompts. My intuition is to do the following: In the Tone & Style section of the Story Bible, write "This story features numerous flashbacks in which the reader is shown a previous event experienced by the POV character. Flashbacks are written in third-person past tense [or whatever mode matches your story] from the POV of the chapter's POV character. Flashbacks are distinguished from the main storyline in two ways. 1. They appear between section dividers. 2. The body copy is formatted in italics. The main storyline transitions to a flashback when the signal FLASHBACK: appears. The flashback ends and the main storyline resumes when the signal BACK TO STORY: appears. Transitions from main storyline to flashback and from flashback to main storyline are marked by a section divider." Then, you create your outline and expand your chapter summaries. You go through them one by one and whenever you want a flashback to appear you start a new line in the chapter summary and write FLASHBACK: and you describe what happens in the flashback. At the end of the flashback, you start a new line in the chapter summary and write BACK TO STORY: and continue the main storyline that the engine generated for you. I haven't tried it and can't guarantee it will work, but personally that would be my starting point. It may take some trial and error to refine the process. More experienced users may have other advice; there is no reason you should take mine over theirs.

@Doug Owen Thanks for explaining; I keep discovering new things that are useful to know when it comes to AI-generated books.
Bit the bullet
Okay, I did it. Moved over to BookNova. The interface is the same as textbuilder, which is okay. Building is missing genres: Current: Fiction Romance Thriller Mystery Fantasy SciFi Need: Comedy (basically a sub, but not to everyone) Urban Fantasy Steam Punk Horror Love Story (not the same as Romance) Lit RPG and a few more Is there a sub-genre ability? I can throw you a lot of ideas at you to fine-tune what would make it pop! Doug

@David Pack and @Doug Owen forgive my ignorance, but what is it about steampunk that makes it genre? I always thought of it more in terms of mood, setting, technology, etc. But I assumed you could have a steampunk thriller, a steampunk whodunit, a steamysteampunk romance, a steampunk fantasy, a steampunk police procedural... maybe not a steampunk small town romance or cozy mystery... but I'm curious as to what makes it a genre of storytelling because I could be missing out on immense richness and depth of which I'm currently unaware.
Spoiler
I wanted to test the new update, so I regenerated a project I had already completed and was in the process of editing. So far, I believe the new version significantly improved the book. I’m reading through it now, and the revisions have been relatively minor. There is, however, one glaring exception. The book’s major twist hinges on the revelation that a character presumed dead is actually alive. Unfortunately, the table of contents casually spoils the entire ending by announcing it in a chapter title. A careful reader would know my “surprise” from the very beginning. Needless to say, that chapter title is getting a rewrite. Overall, though, I LOVE the update. Thank you @Zigmars Berzins!!!!

That's especially valuable for mysteries because the table of contents is right at the front of the book. If the penultimate chapter's title is "The Butler's Murderous Confession" then that's a lot of work down the drain.
