šŸ‘‹ Welcome to the J4K Goalkeeper Community!
Hi Keepers and Parents, As you probably know, goalkeeping is a VERY LONELY position for both keepers and parents. This is why J4K created this community - So PLEASE take advantage as there is NOTHING like this on the planet! Please take a few minutes to do the below. 1ļøāƒ£ Introduce Yourself - Tell us your name and what country you’re from. - Share ONE thing you’d love to get out of this community (training tips, glove advice, scholarship info, etc.). IMPORTANT: Because there are children in this community, we’re committed to keeping it safe and supportive for every goalkeeper and parent. This is a community that looks out for each other — if someone tries to spam, troll, bully, or sell directly or indirectly, they’re usually reported quickly. J4K has ZERO tolerance for any of this, and accounts that break these rules will be banned, helping keep the community safe for all. Welcome to the community Ray Newland Founder J4K PS: If you are also deadly serious about your/your childs goalkeeping and want to become a Pro Keeper or gain USA scholarship, check out some of the other more advanced programs we do. Been A goalkeeper since I was 11 years old, I used to play at pro youth level but I now play Sunday league for southside AFC and I also play 7 aside football twice a week whilst training once a week before match days on Sundays, looking forward to getting to know this community better and I recently tried my first pair of J4K gloves and incredible quality.šŸ™Œ

Young GK - Staying sharp without a coach?
Quick one – any advice from other parents? My son’s development team doesn’t have a GK coach, so he sometimes ends up standing around while outfield training is going on. I try to keep him working on his own drills, but it’s not always easy. Any tips to keep young keepers engaged and developing? Keeping it fun is the main thing āš½ļø

When I was younger a lot of the clubs I played for didn’t have a goalkeeper coach except when I made it to pro youth level. Best advice I could say to help keep your son keep occupied is start by telling him to do his own warm up and stretches that are specific to his goalkeeper needs and whilst doing certain jogs in the warmup take a ball with him as there are plenty of different exercises he can do whilst holding it or even tossing it in the air. Make sure he’s still giving it 100% effort whilst doing training with the outfield players even tho it’ll be tough given he will be wanting specific goalkeeper training although he can make a lot of the training directed more towards goalkeeping so when outfielders are doing heading training and jumping up for the ball tell your son to practise jumping up and claiming for the ball and calling his name even if there’s no one around him it’ll help develop his confidence towards the future for commanding that the ball is his to be taken. One of the types of training I felt was useful when I was younger was practise ur feet work and position when diving down or up for the ball as you don’t need someone hitting shots into you in order to do so. Make a point across to the manager of the team that he would like to do more goalkeeping focused exercises in training as there’s no harm in asking and it’ll benefit ur son massively. As he gets older and goes to different teams you’ll see a lot of them have goalkeeper coaches and some don’t but just depends on level of football club but don’t let him get put off goalkeeping as he’ll get plenty of the training he needs throughout his career. I hope this was a little helpful and best of luck to you guysšŸ™Œ

Help with Distribution
I need help please. My son is a goalkeeper in U10 team. He is very athletic. His coach said he is excellent with stopping the ball, dives and brave as a lion. BUT he is very slow with distribution, he is always hesitating to get the ball back into the game. He is not sure whether to pass, or throw or volley it. That could even result into moving him into less stronger team next year if he doesnt improve due to lowering number of teams from 4 now to 3 next year. That could be due to his personality and decision making, and a number of missed team trainings due to sickness. Could better distribution be trained ( at home, gk trainings) or it only becomes better in games with whole team? What can we do? How are you with distribution?

I’d try motivate your son that if he chooses whether to kick, throw or roll out the ball then don’t worry if it’s the wrong decision as that’ll sometimes happen so he’s probs hesitant incase he makes the wrong one. He’s also probs very nervous as alot of times when goalkeepers get the ball there’s players screaming at them from all over the pitch to pass it to them and it can be quite confusing so maybe try tell him when he’s up and ready to distribute the ball not to focus on all the noise and pick out that one player to pass to. Not always can we get the ball out super fast as sometimes we get yelled at whilst we’ve not even left the floor after claiming the ball so try encourage your son that not always will he get the ball distributed so quickly. I hope he manages to find some form with it and best of luck for his training šŸ™Œ
