Hey everyone – so I just heard about some new changes YouTube is testing, and I thought I’d share my thoughts. You know those end screens that pop up at the end of videos – the ones with clickable links, other suggested videos, and subscribe prompts? Well, YouTube is experimenting with something called a “Hide End Screens” button. Basically, when the end screen starts to show up, a little button will appear in the top-right corner. If you click it, the end screens disappear so you can finish watching the video without distractions. And don’t worry – if you change your mind, you can click “Show” to bring them back. What’s interesting is that YouTube said when they tested this, the number of people clicking on end screens only dropped by about 1.5%. That’s not much at all, which makes me think viewers mostly like having the option, but it doesn’t drastically change behavior. The other change they’re rolling out is on desktop. If you’ve ever hovered over a creator’s watermark in the corner of a video, you might’ve noticed a little Subscribe button pops up. Well, YouTube is removing that popup (not the watermark). Their reasoning? There’s already a big subscribe button right under the video, so they want to simplify the interface. Honestly, it kind of makes sense, though I know some creators will wonder if that’s going to hurt their subscriber numbers. The good news is – none of this affects how creators set up end screens or add watermarks. It’s just about how viewers see and interact with them. YouTube says these are experiments, so we’ll see if they stick around permanently.
