Altitude sickness?
Any other skiers on here get altitude sickness sometimes? I’ve had it at a couple of resorts in Austria and Switzerland where the common factor seems to be getting quickly whisked by cable car from a base station at say 1200m up to around 2500-3000m. I’ve felt sick, dizzy, disorientated and it can be debilitating and most importantly spoils my fun. It does tend to get better through the week. I know it’s much more common amongst mountain climbers who go a lot higher but it’s a common theme with me in that kind of resort. I’m fine somewhere like Tignes or La Plagne when staying higher up. Anyway, I’m going to try some medication next time acetazolamide, known by the brand name Diamox. I’ll let you know how it goes and if it’s any better.

I get it most years at high resorts - Obergurgl in January was a killer the first day but found Ibroprufen has helped on the first night and first morning. By the time of the Feb and March ski holidays it was not an issue - but Ibroprufen seemed to alleviate symptoms.

Nearly 70 but still skiing 2 to 3 weeks per season. Retired so playing guitar and recording in my studio, and cycling in Richmond Park every week.
