A Judge Says a Voice Case Can Move Forward
A quick update from the courts, and a reminder for tomorrow. David Greene is a well known radio voice. He says Google built an AI copy of his voice and put it in a podcast tool, and he never said yes. This week, a California judge said no to Google's try to throw the case out. The case moves forward. Why this matters to you: your voice is part of your brand. Before you create or build with AI tools, read what you agree to. Some tools ask for rights to your voice and your words. The HOF Test (Human. Original. Fixed.) still rules the day. A human made it. It is original. It is fixed in a form you can prove. Allegations are not a final ruling. The court has not decided who wins. But the door is open, and that alone is big news for creators. For education, not legal advice. Question: if an AI tool copied your voice tomorrow, would you have proof it was yours first? TOMORROW: From Copyright to Cash: One Book. Multiple Income Streams. Coach @Carmen Winter-Ketcham you are making real progress! Congratulations
AI Cannot Own Your Work. Only You Can.
The Supreme Court just settled one big question. AI cannot own your work. Only you can. Here is the breakdown. AI is a tool, like a camera. The camera does not own the photo. You do, because you chose the shot. The same rule now stands for AI writing. If AI writes it alone, it has no author. If you shape it, edit it, and make real creative choices, your part can be owned. Run the HOF Test: Human. Original. Fixed. Human means you made real creative choices. Original means the work came from you, not copied. Fixed means it is written down or recorded in a form you can keep. Your idea is free. Your words are gold. Bring one page to Saturday's workshop and claim it before someone else uses it. What human choice will you make in your next page? For education, not legal advice. Dr. Fred Jones, Esq. Protecting the Property of the Mind

Be like Dolly, part 3: after you're gone
Dolly passed this August at 80. Her songs did not stop working. Here is the law. When you write a song, a book, or any original work, your copyright lasts for your life plus seventy years. Seventy years of her family getting paid after she is gone. Think about that. Dolly's songs paid her while she slept. They paid her in retirement. And now they pay her family, because she kept the copyright her whole life. She started her own publishing company in 1966 and never gave it away. Most people work their whole lives and stop getting paid the day they stop working. A copyright is the one asset that keeps paying your family when you cannot work anymore. That is why she cried all night in 1974 and still said no to Elvis. She was not protecting a song. She was protecting seventy years of her family's future. Your book is your song. Your chapters are your catalog. Before you create or build your next book, song, or course, run the HOF Test. Human. Original. Fixed. Then keep what you made. Think copyright first. Be like Dolly. Be like Dolly, part 2: the payoff
You watched Dolly turn down Elvis. Here is what she bought with that "no." Eighteen years after she kept her publishing, Whitney Houston recorded "I Will Always Love You" for The Bodyguard. It sat at No. 1 for fourteen weeks. One of the biggest songs in history. The singer got the applause. Dolly got the songwriter money. Because she owned the copyright, every royalty check came to her. She said she made enough to buy Graceland. That was her way of saying how big the check was. Now hear the lesson. Elvis wanted half of her publishing in 1974. Had she given it away, Whitney's version would have paid somebody else. The no she said in 1974 was the yes her family still lives on. A hit pays the singer once. Ownership pays the owner forever. Before you create or build your next book, song, or course, run the HOF Test. Human. Original. Fixed. Then do the part most creators skip. Keep what you made. Think copyright first. Be like Dolly.
