MondayMONEYdevotion What do you reach for first when you need direction about money? On my morning walk, I was talking with God about the business He gave me. I do that often. Daily to start each work day. I take the questions, the decisions, and the things I do not yet understand back to Him. That morning, I felt my body slow down. It was strange. I have a pace when I walk, but suddenly I felt as though I was moving in slow motion. So I asked, "God, what is going on? What do You want me to slow down for?" At first, I thought it might be a house I was passing. There were squirrels and birds, so I prayed and kept walking. A couple of blocks later, I stopped. There was a man sitting on his front porch, reading his Bible. He was so intent on the Word that he did not notice me standing on the sidewalk, watching him read. And I thought, how often do you seek every other voice before you pick up the Bible? You may look for an article, a headline, a lender, a friend, or somebody online who sounds certain. You may ask what they say about earning, giving, saving, debt, work, and provision. Then, after all of that has gone wrong and left you feeling alone and confused, you may finally ask what God said. But God already gave you His Word. He has not left you without direction. The Bible tells you to seek Him first. Not after you have listened to every opinion. Not after you have made yourself more anxious. First. The God who made all of this knows what He is talking about. Today, pause, pray, and pick up the Word. Ask God what He is saying to you about the money decisions in front of you. Then sit still long enough to hear Him. Prayer Father, forgive me for looking everywhere first and asking You last. Teach me to seek Your wisdom before I take hold of another opinion. Give me a willing heart to read Your Word, receive Your direction, and obey what You show me. "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." Matthew 6:33 NIV

Thursday MONEYTestimony Share your testimony with a post or comment I needed to schedule a tune-up for my AC and heater. 🥵 I could not remember the last time I had done it, but it stayed on my mind. So I called the company that installed it and scheduled the appointment. Then came the filter. 🤦🏾‍♀️ Usually, I need to buy one before the technician arrives. I thought, "Oh goodness, I need to go buy that too." But the Holy Spirit reminded me. The last time I bought filters, I bought extra. I had put them away in a protected place. Somewhere I would remember to look when I needed them. Well, I did not remember. But He did. I opened that little hiding place and found two perfectly usable filters. One for this year. One for next year. I did not have to buy another filter today because last year, when it was today, I planned for tomorrow. That is why TodayPLANTomorrow means so much to me. Sometimes God’s provision for today is connected to the care you took yesterday. You prepared. You protected it. And when the time came, it was there. Your provision tomorrow may just be a result of your preparation today

MondayMONEY Devotion The other day, someone told my son how handsome he is. And he is. But it made me think about how quickly we assign attractive value based on what we can see. A person may have a limp, a stutter, or something visible in their body. They may not fit the height, weight, complexion, style, or facial features the world has decided are attractive. Before we have heard one word from them, we may decide they are not someone we want to know, listen to, or be associated with. That is a dangerous place to stop. Some of the most beautiful people I know would not fit the world's checklist of beauty. But their character is solid. They are loyal. They are dependable. They tell the truth. They are loving, patient, and full of grace. You would miss all of that if you stopped at the door of appearance. Money works the same way. You can see someone's house, car, job title, clothes, vacation pictures, or the way they carry themselves, and decide they must be doing well. But you do not know the whole story. You do not know whether the house is rented. You do not know whether the mortgage is behind. You do not know whether the car is leased. You do not know what it cost them to keep up the appearance. You do not know whether more hours at work are draining the time and attention their marriage or children need. The outside does not always tell you what is happening on the inside. Then there is the harder question. What have you painted onto your own financial picture? What have you put in place so you do not have to look too closely? Maybe it is the car in the driveway. Maybe it is the title on the business card. Maybe it is the clothes, the image, the smile, or the way you answer when someone asks how things are going. After a while, you can look at the paint so long that you start believing it yourself. But being honest is not about beating yourself up. It is about being able to repair what is really there. Years ago, when I worked in industrial safety, I taught construction workers how to inspect a safety helmet, their hard hat. One of the rules was not to paint it or cover it in stickers of their favorite team or band.
