Finally, some proper drawing time
Yeesh, so I've pretty much spent the last month or two dealing with exams and projects. I was basically doing drawing exercises this entire time. I did manage to do lesson 2 and 3 though. Also got distracted trying to learn how go draw hands, which turned out pretty well. But finally holidays begin in 2 days and I've had an annoying itch to do some serious art practice for the last month. Just 2 more days. Here is anything I deemed notable practice from this time period, except the drawing exercises of course.

@Koen Kuiphuis Thank you
Something's off
I've done my first actual portrait after I began studying art, but it doesn't really match the reference well and several parts are off to me. Still, it was pretty fun to draw. What do you think?

@Willy Oleus Thank you for the compliment.
Beginning the course
I've just begun the Figure Drawing Course. It was fun and I think it went pretty well. Here's homework #1, took about 50 minutes. What's the verdict?

@Chris Legaspi Thank you
Day 1
Very much a beginner, but so glad to be here. I'm actually trying to learn to draw (and maybe oil paint??) to bring the characters in my fantasy books to life, but if I could do it one style... It would be this one. Already digging into the work of the artists mentioned in Module 1 of the free stuff. Any tips for a beginner?

As a beginner, being a beginner is the best time to learn. You have lots of freedom and no built up habits. Just direct that freedom to your goals and enjoy the process
Half the Work is in the Reference
A quick post to highlight how important it is to find good references. It is not just about 'finding a horse,' for example, but more about 'finding a horse with a pose that works aesthetically in art.' A strong reference can give you 50% of the work already done. I am sure Chris already mentioned this, but if you choose a portrait with the right lighting, you are already halfway there. After that, it is just about applying your theoretical knowledge to the rendering.

Wow, thanks for the great advice. Now I feel like getting a reference right now and working on it. Probably will😁
