Jumping back in!
Aloha everyone! I'm back from my retreat in Hawaii! It went very well... And now that that is finished I'm ready to jump back in to my book writing! I'm a little overwhlemed... and was wondering if anyone had suggestions on how to start the momentum up again? 🤪

The Dark Side of Publishing No One Warns You About
I want to share something that’s been on my mind, because the publishing world can be a minefield if you’re not careful. There are a lot of ways people get scammed in this industry. And honestly, it doesn’t just happen on sketchy websites or random emails—it happens right here in communities like Skool too. I’ve seen people create accounts under the names of highly credentialed authors, bloggers, or influencers. They present themselves in a way that makes you think, “Wow… I’m honored this person is even talking to me.” I’ve fallen for it before. More than once. I’ve had people come into this community that I later had to ban after realizing they weren’t who they claimed to be. When you’re a good person, you tend to assume others are too. That trust can get taken advantage of, and over time it forces you to become more cautious and put boundaries in place. That’s not a bad thing—it’s a survival skill in this space. I’m not sharing this to scare anyone. I’m sharing it because the publishing industry is riddled with red flags, and I want you to always do your research. When I first started my publishing journey, I got hyped into buying a big-ticket program. I truly believed I was going to be guided by the actual program creator—the person whose success story sold me in the first place. What I ended up with instead was coaching from a trained employee. Not a bad person, but not someone who had their own books selling at scale either. It helped with accountability, sure. But the experienced guidance I thought I was paying for? That part was missing. I had to figure out a lot the hard way, and that stung—especially knowing how much money I had invested. Another story that still makes my blood boil: my uncle once tried to hire a “publisher.” They had an incredible sales call with him and promised him the world. One of their guarantees? 3,500 book sales. They wanted him to wire transfer over $10,000. That alone set off alarm bells for me. Since he knew I was self-publishing, he asked for my input. I told him to ask very specific questions—especially whether those “sales” were real purchases or just downloads. It’s very easy to run a free ebook promo and hit big numbers.

@Krista Brea I was an actress / singer. After many years you learn that there’s 2 games in hollywood… the one where the real deals are made… then the other one full of bottom feeders and scammers promising the dream. The doorway into the real game is nearly impossible to get access to. So you can spend years chasing and giving your money to people: teachers / casting directors/ agents/ mangers and never really go anywhere. I could go on and on… 🙃🫤😞

@Bradley Deacon it's true. Sadly success is rarely based on talent. ☹️

Add YouTube To Your Book Strategy
If you plan to coach around your book, starting a YouTube channel is a really smart move. I want to share a real example that stuck with me. A friend I met here on Skool last year, recently pivoted and went all in on YouTube. His entire strategy is simple: he posts daily videos in his niche talking about real pain points people already have and how he helps solve them. No fluff, no viral chasing. 👉Every video points directly to a booking page. No free calls. No sales calls. People book paid 1:1 coaching straight from his funnel. He’s now consistently making over $10k 🤑 a month from coaching while still working his day job. The content does the pre-selling for him, so by the time someone books, they already know why they’re there. That’s the part I think most people miss. Almost all of us here are entrepreneurs. Many of you already have a book, a method, or lived experience people would gladly pay for help with. YouTube works so well for coaching because it builds trust before someone ever talks to you. You’re not convincing — you’re attracting. I’m still very much a student when it comes to YouTube myself, but even in my short experience, I’m already seeing why this platform matters. With a micro channel of around 1,000 subscribers, I’ve had companies reach out to pay me for software video showcases that are directly related to books and publishing. That happened way earlier than I expected, and it completely shifted how I see YouTube — not as a “social platform,” but as a long-term business asset. If you want to be more strategic about this, there are some really solid YouTube-focused Skool communities out there that teach positioning, content strategy, and monetization. I’m part of a few that are completely free and genuinely helpful. 👇I’ll drop the ones I recommend below. The YouTube Blueprint - Big group lots of great free content here. The Content Revenue Lab - More specifically, YouTube for people over 40

I really need to get this moving... I'll check out those communities and see if they can give me some tips. I want to get making videos more streamline... instead of it taking me all day to do one! 🫠
