These majestic trees once covered large parts of the Scottish Highlands. I saw quite a dense clump of them today. Can you see how they are reaching for the sunlight? What do you notice about the tree trunks?

Every place has its own character, history, and limits. Living lightly on the land does not look the same everywhere. Climate, soil, water, culture, and access all shape what is possible and appropriate. Comparison with other places or people is rarely helpful. You may live on a croft, in a town, in rented accommodation, or without easy access to green space. All of these contexts still involve relationship with land. The land gives us a lot. Food to eat, water to drink, places to play and explore, materials we use, and homes for plants, animals and people. So what can we give back? There’s a word for this: reciprocity. It simply means that a relationship goes both ways. Caring for the land doesn't have to mean doing something enormous. Small actions matter too. You might grow some flowers for insects, look after a garden, pick up litter, waste less, support someone growing food locally, or simply learn more about the plants and animals that share your neighbourhood. Sometimes caring also means doing nothing. is called Oban. It is on the coast and a ferry port for travelling to and from the islands. Sometimes wr get some very interesting ships visiting. This was a Spanish vessel called El Galeon Andaluz
