Our New Moon at 21°59' Cancer arrives on Tuesday, July 14, at 2:43am PT. A Cancer New Moon carries the flavor of going within, of searching the depths of our feelings for what needs to be felt, heard, healed, and nourished. This one takes that a step farther, as it is conjunct Mercury retrograde, asking us to think with our heart, and speak from our deep well of knowing. What wants to be healed in your life? What wants your heart's attention? What wants to be nurtured inside of you? As a Sacred Voice Alchemist, I also feel that this conjunction with Mercury is asking us to look at the shadow of our voices. Where have we stayed small or silent, in order to avoid hurt feelings? Where have we ignored our own intuition? Where have we dimmed our magic, because the world expects us to be practical or logical? Cancer also brings in themes of family and home. Perhaps these questions might make a healing conversation during quality time with our loved ones, where we feel safe to express our tender and vulnerable feelings. Or...where we need to set boundaries around them. Enter Saturn in Aries squaring off to this lunation. It is a loose square, but will be felt nonetheless. He is reminding us the importance of boundaries, and taking responsibility for our feelings. Whether the healing conversations are had within yourself, or with your loved ones...bravery will be required. Feelings may be hurt, but it is important that we breathe through the discomfort and finish the conversation. For the sake of love and authenticity. For the sake of keeping our hearts flowing with truth. And for the sake of empowering our voices to be the divine creative force that they are. Our Full Moon at 8° Capricorn arrives on Monday, June 29, at 4:56pm PT. All Full Moons are directly opposite the Sun, and in this case the sign of Cancer is particularly highlighted. At the time of this lunation, Jupiter is at the very last fraction of Cancer, just spending 6 more hours there until he moves into Leo for a year. Mercury goes retrograde in Cancer just about 6 hours before this Full Moon. There is something in this watery Cancer dance that I feel is reminding us to search our emotional depths, our heart intuition, to inform the "great work" that we are illuminating with the Capricorn Moon. The ruler of this lunation is Saturn in Aries, squaring off this lunation with the authority of the Emperor Tarot card. It's an interesting scene I am looking at in the sky wheel. Moon in Capricorn says "commitment, mastery, great work". Saturn in Aries says "lead, be decisive, stand in your authority". Mars freshly into Gemini says "Your words are weapons, and I am ready for a battle of wits!". It all feels very patriarchical. But quietly in the background, underpinning everything is the watery Cancer energy, and Chiron freshly in Taurus...holding the feminine wisdom of leadership with love and with the land. I feel like this final conversation between Jupiter and Mercury in Cancer is a pact to remember our heart song as we move forward into air and fire times. Jupiter moves onto Leo to roar this song forward, and Mercury stays behind keeping our thoughts in deeper, meaningful waters. This is why I look at the whole sky wheel when I make these spreads. Not just the math of aspects and elements, but the story. What conversations are these planets having while all of our attention is on that big beautiful Full Moon? An out of bounds Full Moon. Which means the sea goat has left the usual structures and traditions behind. She isn't playing by the usual Capricorn rules. She's in search of something different, something out of the ordinary, to build her legacy on. I think we are being invited to lean into heart and earth wisdom, to consider the great work of healing, and embodied feminine wisdom. To dedicate ourselves to our path with heart, as the oncoming forces of air and fire, change, passion, and leadership fill the sails of our consciousness. Don't forget what you're fighting for. Don't forget what you're working for. And, by the Lady, don't be afraid to try something outlandish to get it done.
