If an athlete establishes process goals but does not consistently practice them, how would you revise the goal-setting plan so the goals are collaborative, behaviorally specific, flexible, and integrated into the athlete’s daily training routine?
A few areas to explore: 1. Does the athlete truly associates those process goals with the desired outcomes? If not, we need to take a deeper look at understanding the process or changing the process goals. 2. Are the desired outcomes well defined and are they in alignment with other outcome goals, values and beliefs? 3. How well are those process goals integrated into the daily training routine? Imagery and visualization can help building habits. 4. What distractions keep the athlete away from these process goals, what else does he do with his time?
