I have confirmation that I have passed my Bebo Mia postpartum coursework, and am now a Maternal Support Practitioner. I am feeling very optimistic and can now confidently brand myself with my credentials.

@Lisa Vee that’s AMAZING
Hello Doulas!
I am Erykah Wayne owner of Sacred Turtle Doula Care. I work in the Kansas City Metro and other surrounding areas. My focus is on Indigenous and Minority communities. I am a birth and postpartum Doula and I currently have one Nanny Family.I am in my first six months of business. My monthly revenue goal is $4,000 a month. I am trying to find consistency within my business. A fun fact about me is I was a research assistant for an indigenous community health program at my community college and I still work closely with the community. I also wanted to be a cultural anthropologist, but fell in love with Birth Work.

@Teejay Crawford that is so amazing to hear about your background and education! I feel empowered knowing that elders have been guiding the community for generations. I am able to assist with education for the community when it is usually not easy accessible.
Have you noticed…
I’m sure everyone here has noticed the uptick in anxiety with clients, but I’m wondering if you have also noticed an increase in exclusively pumping moms because it gives them peace of mind knowing exactly how much their baby is getting?Trying to guide and educate some clients and friends on this front. how do you explain tactfully the differences and benefits of breastfeeding over exclusively pumping? (If they have the option)

There is anxiety but having them take a breast-feeding course or sending them resources about how much milk baby is needing in those first few months can be helpful. 6 weeks at a minimum for exclusively breast-feeding is so beneficial to mom and baby. (You all know this) Also, if they have access to a lactation consultant can be helpful especially if it is a hospital birth. Have them request it on their birth plan and make sure that it is provided to them in immediate postpartum around the two-hour mark. That provides time for them to have a professional teach them techniques and workout any issues that arise before they leave. Have your clients support team also educated on ways to help mom. Snacks, water, or just company during breast-feeding can be important as well. Supplemental feeding systems should only come into place after those other options have been exhausted.
