Today’s Scripture Psalm 139:16–17 (NLT) 16 You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. 17 How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! John 15:4–5 (NLT) 4 “Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me. 5 “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.” The Devotional You can live through something so painful that it starts introducing you. Before anyone learns your name, you have already explained the betrayal. Before you take a step toward something new, you have rehearsed what went wrong the last time. You begin making decisions around the wound. Eventually, survival becomes the only future you can imagine. But the hardest thing that happened to you does not have the authority to define who you are in Christ. Psalm 139 takes us back further than the disappointment. Further than the rejection. Further than the moment you started believing you were too damaged, too late, or too ordinary to matter. God saw you before you were born. Before you had a résumé, a reputation, a relationship status, or a testimony, you were already known to Him. Your life did not become valuable when someone finally recognized it. The God who formed you did not need their approval to care for you. You were known before you were wounded. Let that truth reach the place where you have been measuring your worth by what someone else did. Their abandonment cannot make you invisible to God. A failed business cannot erase your worth. A season of uncertainty cannot remove you from His sight. The pain deserves honesty. You can grieve what happened without handing it authority over everything that comes next. And you can come to God before you know how to put yourself back together.
