Does a better cooker make better BBQ, or just make average cooks more consistent?
How much of great BBQ is skill, and how much is the equipment making life easier? Can a great pitmaster outcook an expensive setup on a basic cooker every time?

I prefer wood splits and lump charcoal flavor over the rest. My results improve the most by practicing different cooking methods and fire management. These things are all directly linked to my cooker selection. Cooker size opens up different zone setups/distances from fuel, fuel types etc. It’s a flex to says stuff like “it’s not the pit it’s the pitmaster”… but in real life.. I disagree that it’s that black and white. The pitmaster’s cookers matter.

When does charcoal flavor get infused?
In a 2-zone setup, when is the most charcoal flavor infused? Cooking indirect or (quick) sears? Which of these two reverse sears will have the most charcoal flavor? - cook charcoal indirect, cast iron pan sear - cook oven/sous vide indirect, charcoal grate sear

@Real MeatStick I was surely hoping that this was the answer! Thanks man! Super thorough as always. My family loves my steaks.99% of the time I reverse sear them over a charcoal grate. I am going to start experimenting with searing on a flat griddle instead of the grates.
