Am I making a mistake?
Today I got an interview for a sales position at a local Lexus dealership through my friend referring me to one of the general managers. Long story short, I made a great impression and they offered me the sales position. I also sold them on my car photography and media creation skills, which is great because they needed content for their social media. This is a pretty big deal since it is extremely rare for a new salesman, specifically an 18 year old to get a job at a big dealership like this one. Here's the catch, I wanted to work part-time, 3-4 days a week, every day apart from the days I have class (Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday). They said that unless I work full time, 5-6 days a week, I cannot get the job. I went into this interview with no intention of neglecting school. For context I am 18 years old and currently in college to be an Electrical Engineer. I recently started my second ever semester and I am doing fantastic in terms of grades and networking. Right now I am very torn between accepting the offer and dropping out of college, or staying in college and turning down the offer. I was told that on average, salesmen typically make $100,000-$120,000 per year at that dealership. I have plenty of faith in myself that I can make more than that even in my first year. In my city (NYC), Electrical Engineers make around $130,000 after five or so years, and that can even pass $200,000 if I get deep into software as well. A couple hours after leaving the interview, I texted the general manager that I would be willing to drop out and take the job, and we'll be meeting again next Wednesday. This text took me around an hour to send, as I am extremely scared to take such a big leap like this. I am extremely confident in my abilities, but its still terrifying going from a straight A student to a soon to be college dropout, all within the matter of a day. I haven't even told my parents. Am I making a big mistake here?
