Something we have been talking about is fueling our bodies to be able to perform. This can go both ways. Not eating enough, or not eating the right things. So, Im here to give you a little cheat sheet. Rule of Thumb - eat a meal every 3-5 hours - try to make your plate 1/3 color, 1/3 carbs, 1/3 protein - get at least a serving of protein in each meal (usually about a handful) - eat when you are hungry!! - a couple hours before a game, your plate should have more carbs than protein/color. - right before or during the game- sports drinks, fruit, candy (nothing heavy- think quick energy!) - try to eat mostly whole foods (convenience foods are fine if necessary- whole foods are your best friends for performance and recovery though!) Example meal: - chicken, vegetables, rice - ground beef, potatoes, vegetables - ground turkey, taco seasoning, lettuce, salsa, avocado/guac siete chips - sandwich with fruit Example Snack: - protein shake - yogurt w berries - cheese and crackers - nuts and fruit - rice cakes and honey - fruit and deli turkey
