Create a Referral Sentence
People cannot refer you if they do not know what to listen for. Give your network a simple referral sentence: “If you hear someone say they are struggling with ______, please introduce us. We help ______.” Dr. Mel • Your Experience Is the New Degree Example: “If you hear a small business owner say they want to pursue contracts but do not know where to start, please introduce us.” A clear referral trigger turns casual supporters into useful connectors.

This is a good point. A simple referral sentence makes it much easier for people to understand who they should connect you with. It also seems more natural than just telling people to “send referrals” without giving them a clear problem to listen for.
Your Differentiator Must Matter 🎯
“We care about our customers” is not a strong differentiator. Every competitor can say it. A meaningful differentiator should highlight standard-setting strengths, such as: - 🎯 Specialized Experience: Deep, niche knowledge in a specific agency focus area. - ⚡ Faster Response: Accelerated delivery cycles or turnaround times. - 📍 Geographic Access: Local presence or strategic proximity to project sites. - 🔄 Proprietary Process: A unique methodology that guarantees consistency. - 📜 Relevant Certifications: Key set-asides (SDVOSB, 8(a), WOSB, HUBZone). - 📊 Stronger Reporting: Unmatched visibility, tracking, and communication. - 🛠️ Unique Technology: Utilizing specialized systems or AI-assisted workflows. - 🛡️ Better Risk Controls: Higher compliance standards and proven contingency plans. - 📈 Demonstrated Outcomes: Verifiable past performance and metrics. Your differentiator must solve a real problem for the buyer, and it must be backed up by clear evidence. Ask yourself: Why would a contracting officer choose us instead of doing nothing, staying with their current vendor, or selecting someone else?

This is a great point. A differentiator only really matters if the buyer can see how it solves a problem better than the alternatives. I especially like the emphasis on evidence because saying you’re faster, more experienced, or better with technology means very little without results or proof behind it.
