Veterinary technician
I’m Tim and I live on Long Island N.Y. I have been in the field forever and a licensed technician for 42 years. I work at a general practice and a cat shelter here on Long Island. I am an introvert and have been married to my husband for 22 years. We have one cattle dog mix and 2 Chinese box turtles. Our dog is 2 y.o. And the turtles are about 50 y.o.,I have had them for 46 years. I also have a cockatiel bird with one wing. A rescue from an emergency hospital I used to work at. I basically work in surgery and take my job very seriously. Always looking to improve our protocols for better care of our patients. I look forward to reading other techs feedback, you are never to old to learn new things.

I admire you and others that commit to bringing turtles in their families. The number of years that you are able to be with them is beautiful.
🎯 7-Day Holiday Vetspan Kickstart (Dec 2025!)
December is nuts. Clinics are slammed, everyone’s tired, and “starting a full 21-day program” probably feels impossible. So let’s NOT do 21 days right now. Instead, let’s do 7 days together using the 21-Day Vetspan Kickstart that’s already waiting for you in the Classroom. You’ll find: - 📄 The 21-Day Exercise & Nutrition Kickstart for Vet Pros (downloadable PDF) - 🎥 A 15-minute explainer video where I walk through how to use it without burning yourself out How this 7-Day Kickstart will work For the next 7 days (must start by end of the week!): 1. Go to the Classroom and open the👉 “21-Day Vetspan Kickstart” lesson(PDF + explainer video are there) 2. Each day I’ll post a quick thread here in VC: ➡️ I’ll tell you exactly what to focus on for that day (movement or fuel) ➡️ You choose what’s realistic based on your schedule and energy 3. Your only “requirement” to play: ➡️ Try the day’s action (or your best attempt at it) ➡️ Then comment on that day’s post with a quick check-in e.g., “DONE,” “Half-done but tried,” or “Total miss, here’s what got in the way” No guilt. No perfection. Just tiny, real-life actions layered onto the week you’re already living. Why join in? This next week is about: - Feeling a little less wrecked by the end of your shift - Getting back in touch with your body (strength, movement, energy) - Testing whether this 21-day framework could support you heading into January Even if you only hit 2–3 days, you’ll still walk away with: - A few go-to workouts that actually fit vet life - A couple of realistic dinner + snack ideas you can repeat 🔥 Bonus: Free 30-Min Health Consult in January To make this a bit more fun: 🩺 Anyone who checks in on 5 out of the 7 daily posts (attempts count – this is about effort, not perfection) 👉 Will win a free 30-minute health consult with me We’ll look at: - Your current stress / energy / pain profile - What’s realistic with your schedule - A simple plan to roll into 2026 feeling more durable, not more burned out

Advice for newbies to vet med?
I'm grateful for all the passion and wisdom that people bring to this community. We have members that are just entering the field and others that have been around for 30+ years. Let's pay it forward (as the cool kids say). What advice would you give someone new to vet med in regards to caring for their physical and emotional health? This is a safe space and there are no wrong answers. What works for one might not for another. But having more tools in the toolbox of health can only help! Please share your perspective.

Wearing noise-cancelling headphones (with or without music) in clinic are handy when you find yourself in need of deep thought or a break from the general "noise" at work.

@Amelia Knight Pinkston A very sincere thank you for your concern and taking the time to check in with me. I regret to say that I have not followed through on my plan to create an outline of your presentation, I continue to practice seemingly always behind in action and unable to catch up. That being said I have contacted a recommended counselor and hope to begin session with her soon.

@Amelia Knight Pinkston Just completed participating in your online class. I found it very valuable beyond the benefit of the meditation period you offered at the end the program. This time I made notes as I participated. :) Again, Thank you!
