Mixing During Production?
Hello all, I produce and mix my own music, and in the Fix the Mix challenges, these processes are clearly delineated with gain staging and basically starting the mix process from scratch. I usually mix a bit as I produce - volume, panning, some effects etc. Is it really a lot better to bounce and everything and do a separate mixing session, or is it okay to mix as you go; what are the pros and cons, and any tips for mixing as you go to keep it clean and such? Thanks all : )

Thank you all for the feedback. I think I'll try a new mix session for the song I'm working on. The cons I'm not looking forward to, though, are things like if I get an idea to change a midi note or two or change synth settings I would have to go back to the production session to do so, or for example sidechaining the bass and kick... I guess I'd have to either not do it at all in production or make sure it's right before bouncing - layering sidechain settings would have weird effects I imagine if I realized the bounced settings weren't right. But maybe the added simplicity, organization, and CPU usage in the mixing session may outweigh the potential drawbacks. Worth a try. Thanks! :)

Okay so that's not working at all (mixing bounced audio) It's somehow actually using more CPU and I'm having audio drop outs left and right I can barely listen to it. Do you guys bounce the audio as AIF? I'm using Reason by Propellerhead btw
