How do I get on the call?
There is hope. Better days are coming.
I joined this group a few weeks after a breakup. My girlfriend of 10 years, on a random Tuesday right before Thanksgiving, told me that she no longer wanted to continue the relationship. We were planning our wedding, how we would raise our children, and where we were going to live. We had every step of our lives planned out. Then one day, she said she didn’t want to continue. This came after I had financially invested every dime I had in her. I bought her everything she had ever asked for, from electronics to furniture, clothing, food, and transportation. I denied her nothing. Then, one thing led to another, and she decided to end the relationship. She called me from the phone I had bought her and told me not to call her anymore. For the first week, I was pretty numb. I tried not to think about it. But when December hit, it was one of the hardest months of my entire life. I was absolutely devastated. I had incredible difficulty getting out of bed in the morning. I had never suffered from or dealt with depression before, but that was the first time in my life I fell into deep depression. I didn’t know how to navigate the pain, the memories, or the next steps in my life. I had a couple thousand pictures of us on my phone. She was constantly taking videos on my phone, saying that she wanted our future children to watch them and see how their parents got together. She wanted me to keep the collection safe. Just having those videos on my phone brought me incredible stress. I wanted to delete them, but emotionally, I just couldn’t bring myself to do it. I felt like I was burning 10 years of my life. Every time I worked, every dollar I made or saved, I had the intention of building our future, which now felt like it no longer existed. I felt like my entire life had been kicked out from underneath me. During this time, I had no one to talk to. She had truly been my best friend. We were inseparable and did everything together. We would sleep on FaceTime together every night for months without skipping a day. Everyone else in my social circle looked up to me and came to me for advice. I had no one I could truly confide in. I got so desperate that I began Googling for support groups, but I couldn’t find anything satisfactory. Then I found this group, and it really helped me. Hearing the stories of other people going through similar situations gave me hope that life wasn’t truly over and that it could go on after this. I read the stories of people who had been hurt, both men and women, and it made me see that this wasn’t entirely my fault.
