👣 How Do I Move Forward?
(with apologies to Elizabeth Barrett Browning) How do I move forward? Let me count the ways. I move when first I name the thing I fear, And cease to wait until the road seems clear, Or certainty illuminates my days. I move by questioning the old delays, The whispered doubts I once allowed too near; By choosing one small step, then persevering here, And trusting action more than perfect ways. I move when purpose calls me from my chair, When those I might yet serve outweigh my doubt, When "someday" yields to "now," and I begin. No map need show me everywhere or where The winding road may ultimately come out; I move by moving. That is how I win. — Stephen B. Henry

"It was not the apple on the tree, but the pair on the ground that caused the trouble in the garden of Eden."

From Lines to Intelligence In the first article of this series, I introduced Sunrise 2027 as one of those quiet technological revolutions that most people will not notice until it has become part of everyday life. This time, let us look beneath the surface and explore what is actually changing. For more than fifty years, we have become accustomed to seeing the familiar black lines printed on almost every product we purchase. We scan them at self-checkouts, watch cashiers pass them over laser scanners, and rarely give them a second thought. Yet those little lines are surprisingly limited. The barcode we have known for decades is called a one-dimensional, or 1D, barcode. The name is not particularly exciting, but it accurately describes how it works. All of the information is stored in a single direction, across the width of the code. Think of it as a street address. The address tells you where to find the house, but it tells you nothing about the people who live there, what the house looks like, or what is happening inside. To learn those things, you have to go somewhere else. Traditional barcodes work in much the same way. When a cashier scans a carton of milk, the barcode is not saying, "I am two litres of whole milk with an expiration date of Friday." Instead, it is saying something much simpler. "I am product number 123456789." The store's computer then searches its database for product number 123456789 and discovers everything else; the description, the current price, the tax category, the supplier, and any other detail required to complete the sale. The barcode itself is little more than a reference number. That approach has worked remarkably well for decades, but it has its limitations. Now imagine replacing that simple street address with an entire information package. That is the promise of the new two-dimensional, or 2D, barcode. Instead of storing information in only one direction, a 2D code stores information both horizontally and vertically. Those familiar square QR codes are one example, although Sunrise 2027 uses a standardized version developed by GS1 specifically for commercial applications.

My comment is slightly off where you are coming from I think! but it immediately brought to mind a possibility......surely this barcode could identify waste/garbage/rubbish? So when something is 'dropped' in the wrong place the purchaser can be identified? Or maybe this is too invasive! I live in an area of outstanding natural beauty - & am very frustrated by people leaving their rubbish behind. I'll get down off my horse now!! Apologies in advance!!

🕰️ Headline: Time Bandit Arrested
Dubbed "The Time Bandit" a local man was found with his house filled with old clocks and expensive watches, allegedly stolen from across five states. I would say they caught him just in time!

📌 Stats For Stats' Sake
I posted this as a response to a post in another community, however I felt it stands on its own and is worthy of sharing here: Some stats are just stats. A follower count is a stat. A streak badge is a stat. A view count is a stat. A flame emoji beside your name is a stat. The danger comes when we start chasing the numbers instead of doing the things the numbers are supposed to represent. ► Doing ten meaningful interactions a day can build relationships, but doing ten random comments to maintain a streak builds a statistic. ► Creating valuable content can earn views, but chasing views can lead to creating content you do not even believe in. The benefits rarely live in the metric itself. The benefits live in the actions that generate the metric. Focus on helping people. Focus on learning. Focus on contributing. Focus on showing up consistently. Let the statistics tell the story of what happened. Do not let the statistics become the reason you are doing it.

THIS is the post that drew me into this community today. Exactly the posting gifs for no reason (which is hugely encouraged in some places) seems a pointless waste of valuable time. I will also never have a flame 🔥 as I take Sundays off & am not afraid to say that it’s actually unhealthy to stay online every day.
