CTA5, bones do not connect to images (Help!)
Hi there, I may be out of time here, but I wander if anyone can help with this issue. I purchased CTA5 last year and I still was not able to use because of one little issue, which I struggled at that time, and it took so much of my time and I could not solve, so gave up, now I returned to study on it, and I’m struggling again with the same issue. I’m following the tutorials from Mark D on here, and when he riggs a character with free bones it looks so easy, but when I go to CTA5, that’s when the problem starts, and seems to work differently or maybe it’s some configuration I need to pay attention. First, I separated my character, which is a gecko, into parts using affinity photo (Mark does in photoshop but I’m following it exactly the same) then place the cross marks to reference where the pivot points will be, and export to a PSD file. However, when I import into CTA5 and go to composer mode, exactly as the tutorial teaches, click on the central pivot, open the bone editor, then click on the next bone. Her it should connect the two pivots with the yellow line representing a bone, but it doesn’t. I have to add bone then click again in the main pivot to start the chain, then click in the next one, and it will connect. Now it comes the bigger issue. When I go to the next pivot, which is let’s say, an arm, this arm is a separate sprite, so CTA5 does not connect the bone to the image, it goes grey. I tried many different things, and one on them I clicked on “connect” then “add bone” then connected the two pivots, its one way I thought it had worked as it did not go grey, however, when I go to preview, and move the bones, it move the bones but not the body part, which means the bones are not linked to the images. I had spent all my energy on this and it just nothing works, what do you think this could be, some configuration, the software is corrupted, is there anything difference on this matter from CTA4 to CTA5, as Mark uses CTA4 in this tutorial and I use CTA5? Can you help me please?
Do you draw your own characters or like to use premades?
Im curious how many "from scratch" creators we have on here :) Also, id love to here about what some of your favorite premade characters are and why. Im always looking to see what others create and looking to learn from quality designs.

I’m still learning, so for now I’m using premade characters. At the same time, I’m also working on my first original character, which I created based on my own face 😅 It’s pretty comical to look at it, but I haven’t managed to make it work properly yet.

@Heather Ambrosio Thanks, Heather. Yes, it was a lot of work, and in the end the character didn’t function correctly. I tried saving it as an SVG from Affinity, but it didn’t include all the sprites, such as the different eyes and mouths. So I’ll have to redo it from scratch — but that’s okay, it’s all part of the learning process, right? 😆

Error on Exercise 25 - 12 Principles Course
Hi everyone, nice to meet you! I’m a beginner and I’m really enjoying the learning process, but I’ve got stuck on the exercise in Lesson 25 of the 12 Principles course (Secondary Action Exercise). I went back and redid the exercise several times from the beginning to check if I had done something wrong, but everything seems fine. However, when I import the motion clip for the character running with the gun in hand, the animation looks strange. The gun appears to be floating in space, as if it’s not connected to the character’s fist. Also, even though I changed the sprite from an open hand to a closed hand, it still displays the open hand. Has anyone experienced a similar issue? Or any idea of what am I dong wrong? This is what it looks like:

Sorry, it might be something trivial, but I'm still beginning to learn

Hi Alan, thank you so much — I have good news! I found the issue: it was the FDD that was causing the shift. It seems that in CTA4 this feature may not be added automatically, whereas in CTA5 it is. You can see the result here: The only remaining concern is how this might affect future projects. Disabling FDD solved the issue here, but I’m wondering whether using FDD with characters that have attached props (hands, feet, etc.) could cause similar issues down the line. Thank you so much for your help — I really appreciate it! 👍👍👍
Testing a hybrid production style
I am thinking about an upcoming story in a 2D animation style which involves dinosaur toys coming to life. I have been trying to figure out how to do it using my established characters, and it occurred to me maybe I could just do the dino toys/characters in AI with a chromakey background (blue in this case), then key them into scenes I will animate in Cartoon Animator. So, for example, the characters (kids) are playing with dino toys, something magical happens, and the toys come to life, grow huge, and escape. Then the kids have to track down the dinos and magically turn them back into toys. Here's an experiment with a T-Rex coming to life and exiting screen right. First I created the character in nano banana, created different poses (front/side/back), then created this animation using Veo 3.1 Fast. It took multiple tries to get this right - it kept adding details I didn't describe. It also struggled to understand that I wanted the dino to exit screen right. I had uploaded the first frame, but realized I had to also upload a final frame with just the blue background, no dino. When I did that, it worked. It's not exactly what I was imagining, but pretty close. This took about 3 million credits, all told. 😬 Oh, yeah... and the footsteps are hilariously wrong. I would replace the sound on this clip with much better sounds.
