Excited to Be Here!
I am publishing my first book in early June, and am very excited to become a publisher and part of this community. I have so far been slowly growing my email and ARC lists, and have been watching Dave's videos for about a week or so. All I have to say, is that I'm happy to be here with other self-publishers. Let me know if you have any tips for a newbie!

Hi Jeremiah, good luck with the book. Don't know how familiar you are with Tik Tok and Instagram but if you aren't, and are intending on promoting your book on them. I would definitely recommend familiarising yourself with both platforms. Maybe opening accounts and just getting used to putting out videos/carousels. Maybe also thinking about who your ideal customer is, what they want and how your book provides it. (This is basically a list of things I didn't really do and wished I had once my book came out.)
i need assistance

Hi Badr, when I was starting out I watched a LOT of You tube videos. Just look for some 'Beginning Amazon KDP' type videos. They will explain all of the basic things you need to know to get you started.
I started on Tik Tok!
My first book is finally finished and out on KDP. It took me a long, long time and a lot of absorbing new information and learning new skills to get here and now ...... I have another mountain to climb. Many of you probably know much more about Social media than I do, though that's not a high bar! I have not had a Tik Tok or Instagram account before and in the last few weeks have had to learn how to make and edit videos on my phone (I've been using Capcut) and how to then upload them onto these platforms. I've also had to learn about the importance of a good hook, think about who I am aiming at and think about a style of video that suits my audience and me. I currently have three videos posted and am aiming to produce one a day for the first month. I suppose what I am trying to say is that if you managed to teach yourself how to write, produce and upload a book to KDP you can learn to produce and upload a Tik Tok video. There is a lot of information out there and Davide's videos and courses, here and elsewhere have been particularly useful. Much too early to say how things are going yet as regards the effect on my book but if, like me, you know little to nothing about Social media it can be done if you are willing to learn and put the effort in. Good luck everyone who is trying this approach. I will keep the community posted about my results and would love to hear about how everyone else is getting on with the posting videos side of things.

@Dennis Oware Too early to say regarding the videos. As for validating the book topic - sort of. It grew out of something else I was trying to do. There is definitely demand in the niche I am publishing in however I am up against some pretty established competition with a lot of Amazon reviews. So what I am aiming to do is be different and hopefully better to gain at least a slice of the market to start with. This approach - using social media to market my book - is one I am pretty sure the competition hasn't taken.
Well that was unexpected
I have just watched the core videos and honestly, in all my years of doing KDP I have never heard self publishing explained this way. I am gobsmacked. I have a Masters Degree in Psychology and I have NEVER looked at the Title and Subtitle the way it is explained in video 3. It makes perfect sense , this way. Great information, @Davide Altieri . Now I need to take action.
Well that was unexpected

Agreed, also thought the information regarding 'micro victories' was really interesting. Wish I'd been able to implement these into my first non-fiction book.
New video out now! 🔥
Hey community, how are you?? I’ve just uploaded a new video on YT and I think it will be very useful for a lot of you! I talk about workbooks and why this kind of book is the best one right now if you insert it inside a funnel. Let me know what you think about it 🫶🏻

I currently have two QR codes in my book (In review as I type) one goes to Bookfunnel for readers to get access to some free stuff that comes with my book. This is also linked to Mailer Lite to collect emails allowing me to ask for a review at a later date (second QR code in book linked to review page asking for review in book itself) also at a later date to let readers know when second book in series comes out, hopefully in about 6-8 weeks.

@Rebecca Holman - Ooh got a bit worried about this when I saw ' - External Files & Giveaways: Directing users to download free PDFs, alternative e-book files, or external digital products is against KDP’s policy regarding externally hosted files. Had to check it out myself as i am giving away free PDF's. Seems to be that ' explicitly permitted are links to "additional ancillary material (e.g., checklists, assessment forms, craft patterns, and similar printable materials)." Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing So the policy isn't "no external files or freebies." It's specifically about direct email capture forms. The problem isn't sending people to downloadable content — it's sending them to a bare lead-gen form. There also seems to be a difference here between paperbacks and e-books. The hyperlink policy is largely directed at Kindle ebooks (clickable links). QR codes in print books are treated differently — Amazon treats QR codes as static images, not active hyperlinks, so they sit outside the clickable link restrictions. Pretty sure the things I am giving away qualify as the 'bonus content' you mention above. It's a minefield! (Also apologies if the language in the above sounds a bit harsh - I just copied and pasted from Claude AI who I just asked 'Aah is this true? Haven't used AI for writing the book but it's been incredibly helpful setting up systems and helping out with a multitude of other stuff)) Thanks for the info above.
