What are you working on this weekend?
Once again I’m not in practise mode this weekend. Gigging everyday and playing cars with my son in the day. If this weekend is all about practise for you, what’s your focus? Otherwise, how are you enjoying the weekend? Matt

@Kaia K yeah i've spent quite some time on that bridge.i think the mystery with any complicated chord progression such as this one Is to really follow And honor the melody (not necesarily the original one) when improvising

@Lotte Cutts wow this Is interesting. Kinda different approach. Rhytmically spot on. Time to dust off my old metronome 😃🫪.thx šŸ™
Inspiration
I’m not that inspired with my own playing at the moment. It might be just that I’m really focusing on my teaching at the moment which I am very inspired by (thanks to you all) It could be that I’m pretty tired in general as I’m always rushing about between teaching, gigging around London and looking after my son. I don’t have much time to work on anything too tangible right now, Or it could just be a random phase, Iv had it before and il have it again. It’s really just part of trying to progress something long term. You make jumps at points and sometimes you feel a plateau. It has to work like that, nothing just goes up! My ā€œgo toā€ when I’m not inspired is transcription. Iv started digging into a Parker solo over a Db blues. It’s a bit of a challenge for me, I’m hoping it sees me through to our upcoming transcription Lab next Monday night for VIP members. Maybe by then I’ll be back raring to go and start finding more space to practise hard again. But maybe not. Happy to keep showing up regardless, I know how fun music can be when I am inspired. Sometimes you just have to wait it out. What’s your ā€œgo toā€ thing to play when you don’t have that spark?

Yeah David i totally understand.last weekend i was totally demotivated and out of gas. Slow progress, everything sounded s##t, clumsy and out of tune. So i spent 2 or 3 days just listening to Ann Burton's records and practicing Gershwin's 2nd prelude on piano. Did me good, on monday i felt motivated and energized again šŸ‘šŸ’Ŗ.switching instruments or just letting go from time to time can be really benefitial
Lick of the Week
Challenge! Record your version of this, depending on what’s doable for you, either… In the original key (C Major over a G7) In a few other keys Inside an improvisation over a standard Or as we did last night in practise club, see below… We worked on this one in practise club last night. We took the pattern that this line is based on and played it all the way through all the chords in the C major scale, helping us understand why the melody works and how we can use it. What does this do? Helps us navigate the major scale with patterns and enclosures Drills the sound into our ears and fingers Serves as a technical exercise for our left hand If you are interested in trying out the jazz violin practise club for freejust send me a message or comment on this post.
