Intro from the FNG
Hey yall! I met Joe at the running store yesterday and we had a pretty dorky conversation about running, fitness, and nutrition. Well, he mostly dorked, I mostly listened. At the end he told me about this group. Happy to be here. I’m a 34yr old father of 2, soon to be 3 in October. I’ve been racing bikes since I was 14y.o., but life lately just doesn’t allow the hours required for bike things. So, running it is! I attempted a marathon training block last summer but kept getting injured. This year I’m giving it another shot, trying to do it smarter, and learn from people around me who have been there done that! Look forward to having a sounding board for my neverending questions. Currently running low and slow, trying to strengthen the body to break 20:00 in a 5k this fall. Strava: @theriddler

@Karl Bro pretty tough! Aerobically things have felt easy, but running is hard on the body. I’m currently sidelined for a couple weeks with an aggravated TFL. Just working on building the body stronger, and easing back into things gently.
How do you get your miles?
Hey everyone! As I’m going out to get my long run, a thought popped up. I normal like running 6 days per week.. a few easy runs, a long run, and 1-2 workouts. The past 2 weeks have been a grind for me, so I’ve done fewer, bigger runs. I’m not as big a fan but the flexibility it affords is actually quite nice. And so I’m curious, do you prefer more sessions with variation? Or will you squeeze it all in elsewhere if you have to?

I’m trying to run 4 days a week and cross train/cycle 2 days a week. This isn’t exactly how my weekly mileage works out but in general I feel like 5 miles 4 times a week just feels more productive than 4 miles 5 times a week, or 3 miles 7 days a week. Not sure if there’s any truth to that, or if one is more risky than the other in terms of injury.
