Brief introduction with my voice!
It's dirty, oily and gross... but that's how I prepare and process rocks. Mineral oil is the medium for cutting... water is the coolant for grinding and polishing. Support your local lapidary club! 12" saws are around 2000 dollars.. trim saws are another 800, and a good cabbing machine, lortone or cab king are at least 2200. It is quite an investment. Plus consumables.

@Golddust Mommy keep on the look out for used machines! Or make one if you can. But yes, in general, it is not a cheap hobby.

@Stacy Hodge welcome! Feel free to check out my other pages. Vernon lapidary club official. I post much more on other platforms, especially Facebook, regarding rock hounding. This is more of an experimental platform for me. If you need any tips feel free to reach out!

I cut some nice host rock
These boulders were so big I had to modify the saw for it to fit. 1.5 hours per slice. Brutal!

Nice little piece left over... you can see the druzy amethyst vein still left. Nom nom nom... our saws eat rock for breakfast

@Robin Lewis yeah it's just under the surface, sometimes!
Good stuff
I make em! Some i find raw, others, I purchase as slabs... but all of them are formed by hand.
Good stuff
Amethyst hunting
A local spot, known for druzy amethyst clusters, was torn apart by excavation... so i went to see what I could find. I found a ton in a pile. The host rock is serpentine. Rock hounds for life!

@Golddust Mommy find the claim owner and ask permission... sometimes they really don't care. Or.. I find farmers... bring their kids pretty polished stones.. and ask to see their rock pile. Every farmer throws his rocks from the field somewhere.
