We did it. 29,029 feet.
Last couple of days in Idaho, start to finish. Claire and I climbed the height of Everest in under 36 hours. 30+ hours of hiking, very little sleep, lap after lap. Every lap included The Wall, a 43% grade. Most treadmills max out around 15%. My feet were wrecked. My knee hurt. There were moments the pain almost brought me to tears. But you keep moving. Claire climbed 22,838 vertical feet, the height of Aconcagua. Watching my wife keep grinding was the best part of the whole thing. Eventually you stop thinking about Everest. It's just one more lap. Then one more. At some point your body starts begging you to stop. Your mind starts giving you permission to stop. That's where you find out who's actually in charge. 29,029. Done. I asked last week what hard thing you've been meaning to do this year. Anyone started theirs? Dr. Matt

Where were you on 9/11?
They opened our start line of our climb in Idaho this morning with a moment for 9/11, and the feeling of community in the days after. Where were you that morning? How does this reflection drive or encourage you today?

Claire and I are climbing Everest this weekend. In Idaho.
Every year I pick one hard thing that scares me a little and do it anyway. It's called a Misogi. This year Claire is doing it with me: 15 trips up a ski mountain in Sun Valley, the height of Everest, in 36 hours. Friday morning to Saturday night. I made this quick video before we left. If you pray, we would take it. And I'm curious: what's the hard thing you've been meaning to do this year?

What's in your cabinet that you can't explain?
Quick one. Open your supplement cabinet and find the one you take that you couldn't explain if I asked you why. No judgment. Almost everyone has one. Somebody online said it worked, or it came in a bundle, or it's been there since 2022. Tell me what it is below. The Foundational Five in the Classroom is the short list that does earn a spot, with the test that settles each one.

Systems thinking is the right lens for this, Michael. Health is a system too, and the Baseline is where you find out which part is actually the bottleneck. Glad you're in.
