Growing up in a poor dysfunctional family and childhood trauma, marrying a man from a rich dysfunctional family and childhood trauma, becoming an elementary school teacher of children coming from dysfunctional families and childhood trauma, just made since to help myself as well the children I was teaching 30+ years ago. Attained my M.Ed in school counseling and was a school counselor for 19 years and then decided to pursue the LPC to do something I loved and have another career after retirement. Later, God dealt with me about pursuing my PhD for years but fear kept me trapped. I finally took Him at his Word and decided to apply. I was accepted and graduated with God’s help. I also believe my culture would listen more intently pertaining to their needs for mental health if I had more education.
Private practice options
I've started my research on private practice and how to get started, but I have heard mixed reviews on using platforms like headway, rula, alma, etc vs just starting your own business by getting an LLC and going that route. Anyone have any tips/suggestions?

Hi Ariel…I’ve been in private practice for almost 6 years now and being credentialed by Headway and Alma has been the best decision I could have made. The majority of my colleagues and I started out doing credentialing on our own but soon learned that going with one or several of these platforms was the best way to get credentialed and also gained clientele on more insurance panels because they do the credentialing for you. There are pros and cons to any decisions you make in starting a private practice. I would definitely get a mentor who has been on both sides who can give you guidance and the best advice as to what you feel works best for you and point you in the right direction. But ultimately, the choices are yours and you get to choose what is best for your practice. As I reiterate, being with Alma and Headway has been and still is the best decision for my practice at this time. I hope this helps.

@Ariel Brogdon Sorry for the late response…one of my mentors got me started with Headway and Alma. If you would like to speak with me about and show you some things. I can?
