“The Stoic Trick I Use to Beat Overwhelm”
I have ADHD. That means some days, my brain looks at a simple to-do list and turns it into a mental war zone. Yesterday, I sat down, opened Notion
and boom — 12 tasks. My brain started doing its thing: panic mode, overthinking. But then I remembered something I read from the Stoic philosopher Seneca: “We suffer more in imagination than in reality.” So I tried something simple: I picked one task — just emails — and told myself, "This is the only thing that exists right now." Not the calls. Not the edits. Not the five other projects screaming for attention. Just. Emails. Guess what? I knocked them out in 20 minutes. No anxiety. No guilt. No spiral. Just flow. If you’ve got an ADHD brain, you don’t need more productivity hacks. You need focus filters. Shrink the battlefield. One task. One focus. One win. That’s how you beat overwhelm — the Stoic way.

Staying focused starts with a simple daily plan.I usually create it in the morning—or sometimes the evening before. This way, I give my brain clear instructions on what to do when, without constantly having to make decisions throughout the day. What I initially found challenging was prioritizing tasks correctly and assigning the right time slots. It also takes practice to truly focus on executing tasks without drifting off. One important lesson I’ve learned: it’s okay to cut a task short if it no longer fits within the schedule. That might not work for every task, but there are useful strategies to either complete them more efficiently—or to simply leave buffer time between tasks to stay on track.

Do you have more than 10 tabs open right now?
If so, how many? And why? I want to understand you better -- no judgement!

I rarely have more than ten tabs open at once.Only in exceptional cases—such as during in-depth research—might that number be exceeded. When that happens, I make it a point to immediately close any tabs that are no longer needed or that turn out to be unhelpful. As a rule, the tabs I keep open include: email, calendar, ChatGPT, and occasionally communication platforms such as WhatsApp, LinkedIn, and Nozbe (a highly recommended tool for project and task management). All other tabs are opened on a situational basis, depending on the nature of the work I’m currently engaged in. At the end of the day, I close any tabs that are no longer relevant or required.
