New Member Greetings! (Jan 24, 2026)
This has been a big week! Lotsa people joining. As always, if you've been active already and are tagged here, no worries, everyone gets an intro ping regardless to help provide an entry point. Without further ado, please welcome: @Dawn Stanton, looking to share and explore poetry! @Steven Hensley, here to work on his sci-fi/fantasy ideas. @Chisom Okoronkwo, focusing on sharpening sales copy (which is as valid a type of writing as any other, with its own intricacies!) @Brian Mulcahy, who's just browsing currently. @Ron Roy, who writes kids books and has been decently present already. @Paula Messina, here to tell her story with a lot of lived experience! @Anderson George, a marketer looking to improve how he communicates and presents ideas through writing. @Carmen Reeves, an herbalism and holistic health geek who wants to strengthen her wordsmithing. @James Joyce, joining because he wants to publish and is looking for guidance and momentum. @Emdad Hossain, who's working on a bunch of projects - blogging, comics, line art, all of which demand different use of words! @Lisa Harris, currently just browsing and checking out the community. @Marsha Lindsay, writing daily affirmations and faith-based encouragement to uplift others. You may have seen her around here or there. @John Kes Dizzy, writing short stories and with a passion for birds (the second best category of creature behind crabs)! @Casey Mcquiston, who's done some romance novel stuff! @Jessical Scachetti, who like many is balancing everyday life with a need to create.

Great to meet you guys : )
Small WIP I'd like to ask for help on
I have a work in progress of one of my non human characters, Kestrel, in his day to day. It was a prompt i set for myself at the beginning of the month, but nobody spoke to me about it so i just didn't touch it after the initial few paragraphs. Let me know how I can improve on this and add, while not straying from his character and the idea I had (day in the life with an injured paw) For reference, hes a dragon, he works in the millitary on the ground team, and hes apart of a trio of friends (his other friends being Mayday and Callie.) ... With a ruffle of wings and a small annoyed grumble, Kestrel stood to his talons, ears drooped. He wobbled as he got up from his wooden bed. "**Euugh. Ow.**" With trouble, the skywing staggered out of bed, to lean on the wall, glancing at his hand. He must've slept on it wrong. Forehead creasing, he sighed, looking around the barracks. There was a session hosted for Shield Talons today, and he was probably gonna miss it because of a dumb injury. He scowled, before shifting and fixing his posture, shaking it off. If he recalled correctly, there were no sessions Mayday would be attending— archery was off work, and there was no all-regiment sessions as far as he knew. ...He could go ask him out for a day off. Was Callie free, he wondered? Even if, he didnt want to miss a session. He could power through; he had for most of his childhood after all. A frown crossed his face as he thought of his childhood. An often worry, that somehow it would come back one day and bite him in the tail. He sighed, shaking his head slightly and swishing his tail as he stared around the empty brackets. —

Trying this Weekly Prompt 1
(I am the worst at not editing as I go, so I didn't get as far as I wanted, and had to remind myself to stop wasting time fixing little mistakes... but this was fun!) Susie’s mother walked out the door for the fourth time that day. She patted her precious Susie on the head, grabbed her purse, and waltzed out the front door, keys in hand, but before she pulled the door shut behind her, she turned to look her beautiful girl in the face. “Promise me, Pumpkin,” her mother said in her lilting, song-like way, “Promise me you won’t open the door at the top of the stairs.” Susie nodded, her blonde curls bouncing with the movement. She listened as the car roared to life and growled down the driveway before disappeareing down the road. She tiptoed to the window to see for certain that Mother had actually left. Then, still on her tippy-tippy toes, she crept up the stairs, stopping only a moment when the stair beneath her groaned a warning. At the top, she turned the knob, and there was the dollhouse, the one that (And then my timer went off)

I love the way the mother's dialogue was described. It makes me imagine the household looking warm but clean & silky, if that makes sense?
こんにちは (Konnichiwa)!Little intro : )
Hello!! My name is Dizzy, John, or Kes(trel). I'm working on various short stories that I've been horribly struggling to finish, LOL. They are all fantasy stories, based in the universe of Wings Of Fire, starring OCs I've made. I also do various collaborative works (roleplays) with my friends! This following month (February), I want to atleast finish one of these stories.
