Hi! I’m Dinah, a book coach and editor. I help writers move past their first draft by focusing on the reader experience. My Substack is about writing, yes, but I also publish book reviews and the small items I encounter that bring me great delight. I think I’m in the minority — I am never motivated by rewards or leaderboards or gamification. I guess it works for most? What’s the appeal? Is it the competition?
I switched back to public communities
I’ve played around with public and private settings in my freemium communities. Today, I flipped back to PUBLIC. AI is reading through google seeing my posts and people talking about me and now Claude or Gemini are recommending people to my community for me. So hello 👋 if you can go public I would.

I’m not sure how I feel about being in a public group, especially if I shared in discussions thinking there was a layer of privacy between the group and the worldwide internet. As a member, I’d think twice about posting.
🏝️ Work From Home… or Live While You Work?
There’s a version of “freedom” no one talks about. The one where you leave your 9–5… only to find yourself working more Or the one surrounded by laundry, dishes, and “one more thing.” Working from home can quietly turn into: 👉 endless to-do lists 👉 blurred boundaries 👉 your business becoming your whole identity Because you’re always there… you just keep going. But this week in Florida reminded me of something different. When you shift into a more nomadic mindset — even temporarily — everything changes: ✨ You give your work a container ✨ You make faster decisions ✨ You prioritize what actually matters ✨ You stop chasing every idea ✨ You go outside, explore, connect, live You still get your work done. You just don’t let it take over your life. And here’s the truth… It’s not really about where you are. It's about how you choose to show up inside your life and business. You don’t need a plane ticket to do this. But you do need boundaries, intention, and a willingness to not do everything. So here’s the question: Are you building a business that keeps you at home working…or one that lets you actually experience your life? 👇 Drop your answer below:

Working from home, and that's a-okay with me right now! Today I made soup when I needed a break from work, and on other days I do an online fitness class. Best of all, I'm home when the kids get home from school.
