✂️ QUILTING TOOL TRIVIA: The Rotary Cutter!
Can you imagine quilting without a rotary cutter? 😳 The world’s first rotary cutter was invented in 1979 by Yoshio Okada, founder of OLFA Corporation in Japan. His simple-but-brilliant idea was to replace the traditional cutting motion of scissors with a rolling circular blade—making it much faster and easier to cut fabric accurately. Paired with an acrylic ruler and self-healing cutting mat, the rotary cutter completely changed the way quilters cut fabric—and today, it’s hard to imagine a quilting room without one! Fun fact: Okada was also the inventor of the world’s first snap-off blade cutter. Apparently, the man really had a thing for making our lives easier one sharp blade at a time. 😂

The Gadget Guru community is all about learning, sharing, and having fun with our quilting. Whether you’re brand new to quilting or have been sewing for decades, there’s always something new to discover. As you get settled in, please introduce yourself to the group! We’d love to get to know you. Tell us: - Your name and where you’re from - How long you’ve been quilting or sewing - What you’re currently working on - Your favorite quilting ruler, gadget, or tool - And, of course, something fun about yourself! Don’t be shy—this is your quilting family, and we want to hear from you! You never know when you’ll discover that someone else is working on the same project, loves the same fabric designer, or has a solution to that quilting problem that has been driving you crazy! I’m thrilled to have you as part of Gadget Gurus, and I can’t wait to learn, sew, share, and have a whole lot of fun together. Welcome aboard, Gadget Guru! Let’s get sewing!
