respect all coaching views because times have changed, but I’m still a little old school with it. To me, the more you can do on the field, the more valuable you become as a prospect overall. Versatility matters. Being able to contribute in multiple ways only helps a player and helps a team. Now with that said, I also understand this goes deeper than just ‘play both ways’ or just being talented at one position. A lot of variables go into it — roster makeup, program philosophy, coaching staff, scheme, depth, long-term development, and what’s best for the kid and the team. Back in my era, playing both sides was normal. My high school QBs played safety and linebacker too. So I get both sides of it, but I’ll always respect a player that can stay on the field and impact the game in more than one way, Fun Fact: In My state championship game our left tackle a Maryland commit, never played defense, GAME on the line last play he asked to be subbed in at d tackle l, got penetration batted ball down we won the game, we went 9-3 he never played defense until then, I always wondered what if.
