respect all coaching views because times have changed, but I’m still a little old school with it. To me, the more you can do on the field, the more valuable you become as a prospect overall. Versatility matters. Being able to contribute in multiple ways only helps a player and helps a team. Now with that said, I also understand this goes deeper than just ‘play both ways’ or just being talented at one position. A lot of variables go into it — roster makeup, program philosophy, coaching staff, scheme, depth, long-term development, and what’s best for the kid and the team. Back in my era, playing both sides was normal. My high school QBs played safety and linebacker too.
