Brain Dump
Hi everyone! I just did the Brain Dump Exercise, and it really helped me — I didn’t have a clear story spark before, but now I do! 🎉 I let myself just write without overthinking, and here are some of the fun ideas that came out: - What if a backpack could talk back? - Imagine if crayons went on strike. - Wouldn’t it be funny if the classroom pet ran for president? - What if a lunchbox had secret superpowers? - Imagine if homework did itself… but got everything wrong. - What if a pencil could draw things that came alive? - Wouldn’t it be funny if a teacher accidentally shrank to mouse size? This exercise was so freeing! I feel like I finally have a spark to start with.

Love these, Jessica! The one about the lunchbox with superpowers made me smile — kids would go crazy for that idea!
Stuck
I’m stuck on the illustration Power Do’s & Don’ts! I feel like I’m overthinking what my pictures should look like. I want them to be fun, but I’m worried they won’t ‘match’ or be good enough. Anyone else struggle with this part?

@Sharon Taljaard Thank you so much for this! I was really overthinking it, but now I get it—it’s not about perfect drawings, it’s about making the story come alive. I’m going to try keeping things simple and fun instead of stressing.
Hi
Hi everyone! I’m Jessica, a mom & teacher from California. 🌸 Fun fact: my students call me the ‘class storyteller’! Can’t wait to start this course!

Welcome, Jessica! I’m so glad to see another mom here. I love that you’re a teacher too — your students must adore your stories. Can’t wait to see what you create!
My world
I’m moving quickly through these lessons and finding them so informative! Right now, I’m at the “Creating My World” step, and I’m torn between setting my story in a classroom or inside a book. I know the lesson suggests familiar places work best, but I’ve always loved thinking outside the box. What do you think—should I stick with something familiar or go for something more imaginative? Any advice would be so appreciated!
Is this good or .....
“I was thinking about how boring pencils usually are in class… and then I imagined mine suddenly coming alive! They start arguing over who’s the sharpest one, each trying to prove they’re the best. 😂 I feel like that could turn into a really funny school story. What do you all think?”
