Nobody said Cinnamon Toast Crunch. 😂
I shared an Instagram video of a group of men singing old television theme songs. They sang DuckTales..and my lil' cousin sends me a DM saying: "Cousin, I now want some Cinnamon Toast Crunch!" 😂😂😂 Wait. What?! No cereal was shown. Nobody mentioned breakfast. Nobody said milk. Nobody said Saturday morning. So HOW did one television theme song suddenly produce a craving for Cinnamon Toast Crunch? Let's THINK. 🧠 That's the rabbit hole I went down, because our brains don't necessarily store food as an isolated thing. Sometimes a sound, smell, person, place or song can reopen an entire experience...and the food was simply in the room.. And that brings me to a much bigger question: Did you choose what you eat...or were you trained to eat it? Keep aware of the psychology of nostalgia, childhood food memories, cravings and even how food companies intentionally became part of those memories because food is a HUGE part of how we look and feel. What's the FIRST food that popped into your mind when I asked: "What food takes you back to childhood?" 👇🏾 Don't THINK too long about your answer too long. Don't judge it. Just drop the food. THEN tell us who—or what memory—is attached to it.💚 -Coach Denise l Root Rx

@Verlie Cowan 😅🤣 It was the nostalgia of Saturday Mornings, cartoons, simpler times, family....which usually people connect to food. This is how food companies are able to play on our emotions and we end up eating when we weren't hungry. 💚

Good day, I'm Anya from Texas. I am hoping to learn what SHOULD already be talked about (without prompting from me) at the doctor's. Glad for the resources, information and community.

Welcome and Great day Anya!
A little disappointed
Went back for my follow up regarding my iron infusion. My doctor walked in and and thought it had been a year since I had my iron infusion, when I told him it had only been 2 months his tone changed 🥴. I found out that my iron numbers look good but my ferritin only went up from the teens into the 50s. My hematologist was very positive going into the infusion, thinking I would only need 1 but now we are looking at doing another one in about 6 months. They are sooo expensive even with insurance.

3 Psychology Tricks That Make You Eat When You're NOT Hungry
Food is 80% of how you look and feel and it can effect everything from unwanted weight gain to depression to menopausal/andropausal symptoms...and a WHOLE Lot in-between. Have you ever eaten something when you weren't physically hungry...and halfway through you thought, Why am I even eating this? Sometimes, hunger ain't the reason. Our brains learn associations between food and pleasure, stress, reward, comfort, family, tradition and routine. After enough repetition, certain situations can practically become instructions to eat. Here are 3 I want you to THINK about: 1. The "Betcha Can't Eat Just One" Trick Remember that old Lay's slogan? #Psychology101 Certain highly rewarding foods can make stopping harder than we expect. Add habit, convenience, portion size and learned cues, and "I'll just have one" can quickly become half the bag. So before you automatically blame your "lack of willpower," THINK about what you're eating and what happens once you start. 2. The "I Deserve It" Trick Long day? I deserve it. Stressful day? I deserve it. Got a promotion? I deserve it. Made it through Friday? I DESERVE IT! Notice something? Whether life goes RIGHT or WRONG...food gets the reward. When food repeatedly becomes the way we reward, soothe or celebrate ourselves, our brains can begin expecting it whenever those situations happen. 3. The "I've Always Eaten This" Trick This one gets DEEP. Big Mama made it. Mama ate it. We've had it every Thanksgiving since you were 4. You've eaten it your entire life. And familiarity can make something feel unquestionable. Sometimes we're defending a food because of our relationship and history with it, rather than stopping to ask whether we still want it, need it, or how we feel after eating it.

@Anya Bird Yessss! And I love that you said, "more than I need or want." THAT part. ...because at some point we're not even eating because we still want it anymore...we're finishing because it's THERE. That's where I like to interrupt the autopilot and ask: "If this disappeared from in front of me right now, would I actually go looking for more?" If the answer is no...hmmmm.💚

@Tracy Stephens Yes! The fact that you are aware....you're ahead of most! And of course, the associations are designed that way. We can just create a new design...like not having our couches pointed toward the TV. Lol. I know that's a bit different, but point is, we can get used to anything. Keep paying attention.
