FYI FOR NYS ENHANCED STAR
I spoke with NYS finance department last week and I was told the enhanced star benefit will now be automatic for seniors starting next year. They do a two year look back IE depending on what you made in 2024 you could apply for this benefit in 2026. The automatic enrollment starts in 2027 so the look back is the 2025 tax year

Yes it covers automatically from Basic STAR to enhanced as long as someone on the deed is 65 and older but it is also based on income from the 2 year look back ie 2024 for 2026, but that was not automatic but for 2027 it is automatic and based on 2025 tax year .

Calling your politician
I called Senator Schumer office and I was told about his floor speech and strongly worded letter in defense of protecting social security and Medicare and my response was a floor speech and a strongly worded letter is not legislation and then I asked what concrete legislation are you working on to save social security from being cut. So if your rep tells you about floor speeches or letter remind them that is not actual legislation to prevent benefits from being cut.
Update on my call to Senator Gillebrand
She responded via email: she is supporting the Social Security Expansion Act to remove the cap, expand the benefits across the board for current and new beneficiaries, increase cost of living adjustment and ensure the program is fully funded for the next 75 years.
