Union Canalside winter and summer views
I thought I’d do a wee post on winter and summer views by the Union canal. This is a great walk either in or out from town to or from the canal basin at Fountainbridge to Harrison Park. Fairly lively with walkers with or without dogs, runners, cyclists and boats. Very verdant in the summer (think you’ll notice the colours) not so much in Dec but still beautiful. Winter first then summer. I threw in a pic of a fir tree with decorations by locals, swan family, canal basin and sculptures. Hope you enjoy and go walking to see it yourselves.

@Alex Jones hi Alex! So glad you’ve joined us! welcome! Yeah I moved in 2022 so we’re similar there! Bought the house in 2020 but covid fucked us and we couldn’t move in for a couple of years. Got stuck in London! In Wimbledon. Where were you in London?

Edinburgh Old and New
Edinburgh is a great place for interesting buildings and these two examples are ones I passed by not so long ago. The oldest is the old St Cuthberts CO-OP building in Fountainbridge which was built in the 1880s. Lovely old style often called Scottish vernacular including a crows staircase and somewhat unique cannon like projections. The site included a dairy which employed a young Sean Connery before his Bond days 😁. Now a Loudons cafe below not Scotmid. I walk past it on my way to the meadows. The other is a unique community housing development off Slateford built 1998-2000, looking rather nice in the winter sun. Visually interesting, you either love it or not. As far as I know no film stars involved but you never know. Great example of old and new which can be found all over Edinburgh 😁
