Wear pattern on a short/gamer bat?
@Aj Arroyo Have now taken a couple hundred swings with the short bat - hitting some pretty solidly, mis-hitting a whole bunch including plenty of pop-ups... etc... with the result that I now have a pretty cool wear pattern on the short bat, with at least SOME contact exactly where I would have expected it to be. But I also have a WHOLE BUNCH of what I assume are impacts where I pushed the bat rather than snapping/pivoting correctly... as opposed to these being decent technical swings where I just mis-hit the ball. ...anyway, I am QUITE sure that by now you have a good handful of bats with obvious wear patterns from your more proficient/professional guys, and I was wondering if you could post a pic or two about what a good impact pattern looks like from someone who does this consistently well. (slash, this might be a cool "short") Thanks! In the pic, all of the wear you see is a RHB. I see that if I hold the RH mini half bat with the nub at 10:30 or so that the flat hitting surface is at 9:00 on the clock face. I assume that means that with the short/gamer models that if the nub on the handle is at 10:30/11:00 that the impact surface is still intended to be 9:00 or so on the clock face. Therefore with the nub at 10:30, all of the 12:00 impacts are the equivalent of me cutting the ball with the mini, not hitting it flush. Pushing/other bad hand action, then...

@Aj Arroyo So I don't know that it would NECESSARILY be good content for you, but *I'd* be certainly interested in the results of a dedicated experiment! I was imagining the Golfer's trick... impact tape, or Dr. Scholl's footspray, or dry erase markers or whatever... Put a real thin film of something on the hitting surface right before someone with good technique steps up for a session. Then you'd know, regardless of how beat up the bat was to begin with! Anyway, after having noticed THAT my impact pattern was off, when I took some swings today I was BETTER able to distinguish between the swings where I felt like I was leading with the "back side of my right hand" versus my more standard pushing... and the fact that today's session used actual leather hardballs (white impacts!) with stitches as opposed to the rubbery dimpled kind of ball (dark impacts)... I can now see from TODAY's impact pattern that I have plenty of both types of swing. Anyway, it's obvious to me that I cannot yet feel whether I have done the right thing... ...and that a session or two with some tape on the bat are in my future. Because what it feels like when I go slow is NOT the same as when I try to swing a little harder... and I have had a whole pile of swings now where I felt good about the feels... and the flight path... but then I look at the mark on the tape and... no, I'm guessing I just pushed on that swing. ...because I don't know FOR SURE where the impact pattern SHOULD be... but if I hold up the mini half bat next to the short bat... sure LOOKS like I just did the equivalent of slicing rather than catching it flush.
Things are starting to click
Been working with my son to introduce HLP. His hitting this year was up and down as he made adjustments. His 9u season just finished and wanted to share a hit from a recent game. Things are starting to click and he has some confidence heading into the off season. PS : Maybe I should add sliding to his training because that wasn't smooth

Listen, I have a 9u, and any slide that's 1) no injuries, and 2) called safe is a good one.

Sweetest contact of the season.
A month ago, there's NO CHANCE that Elliott catches up with this guy. Was WAY LATE on first two offerings, but smooth liner oppo here.
Sweetest contact of the season.

Been super impressed with all the @Aj Arroyo content on YouTube, particularly the excellent suggestions on "where to start" with Youth players. Got the mini snap pro LH bat because Elliott (turns 10 in a week) is a pure lefty. But then, once I had the bat and tried swinging LH myself, I decided I needed to feel the feels myself and so I got a RH bat so I could feel how the HLP doesn't match my natural swing. VERY glad I did. Right obliques/RIBS area is SORE after a couple of sessions of doing things differently than I've always done them. Anyway, it was crystal clear to me that I topped out as an EXTREMELY bad hitter in baseball because I was just TOO SLOW to launch... and I wanted to avoid that for Elliott. So we got started on the staying back part for Elliott, but when I saw your Ad for the Mini on YouTube, I thought he could use it. And a couple of sessions later, after it arrived, he had his best two hits of the season across 3 or so games... and I could see when I slowed it down how much he'd started to incorporate the right ideas... not least because he hit it quite solidly oppo on that swing. But part of it for me, too, is just that I'm a good hitter in slow pitch softball more or less because I can place the ball where I want to by throwing my hands where I wanted to go, but I just couldn't hit the ball anywhere near as far as my buddy who was a hair taller than me, but not stronger... ...so I want to use my legs more effectively in the swing as well... so I'm interested in the HLP, because it's just obviously a better way to use the legs than whatever I did before. As far as home setup, we've got a bunch of local fields, a cage, a driveway and a net... Video 1 below was me just farting around with him this morning asking him to just PASTE a few. Video 2 was his best recent in-game contact. ...but I DID have a question. And that is... when *I* swing, any swing longer than a snap stop feels EXTREMELY awkward unless I turn loose with my top hand and finish the swing one handed (both hands come around, but I'm only holding the bat with my bottom hand). Is that basically normal, or is it more a sign of something to work on?
