Thanks! I’m by no means an expert but happy to share if it helps. The start of the journey was a bit of a fluke. I had always been curious if I could do something like this but quickly dismissed it with the common excuses of I’m too busy and don’t have time. Last year my wife thought it would be a fun gift and so I used that as a catalyst to dive in. I was initially inspired by the art of the possible. Lance made a comment about a 6 pack is on the way and before that I had never even considered that as possible. Once I opened my mind to that outcome I was encouraged to keep going. I think the biggest mental shift for me was nutrition. I have never really focused on that previously. Before, I worked out to make room for the “good stuff”. Food was a vice for me and I used junk food as a coping mechanism for stress and other negative emotions. The mental shift that seemed to work is to frame food as fuel not comfort. That put me in the driver’s seat and I felt more in power about trading carbs for protein and greens (and even fasting!). Simply put I wanted to be in control of food and not food in control of me. At the start, it was a lot of information to take in, so I decided to focus on only a few things I could control: 1. what I ate (GPS) 2. When I ate (worked to a 6 hour eating window and fasting occasionally) 3. Exercise minutes Those were all decisions in my power and so I focused on those instead of all the things I couldn’t control. At first I just told myself I could do this for 6 months and then after 6 months the neuroplasticity kicked in and it became habit. My days felt off when I didn’t work out. Eating clean was on auto pilot. After focusing on the simple things I could control, I noticed that the things that felt out of control started to become achievable. - Weight decreased - Muscle increased - Cardio improved Seeing that the small decisions added up to bigger results gave me confidence and motivation to keep going. I think at some point I was thinking I would get to a point where I’m done and now I realize that there is no destination it’s just pushing a little bit more every day. The human body is incredible and we are all capable of doing awesome things. Just control the controllables and forget about everything else.
