I find hiring anyone has been the most difficult task in this industry. Finding that person who vibes with your brand, is competent, confident, and realistic is… exhausting. I get a lot of rn applicants, but my state makes this difficult to have them work effectively. It’s tough, also the non compete is getting more difficult to enforce. May stay a solo operator for a long while.
Devices Devices 🤔
Hi Dan and fellow providers, Do you still think RF microneedling is the best first device for a solo provider practice? If not, what would you recommend? I recently demoed Morpheus 8 and I was pleasantly surprised how comfortable the treatment was, but they numbed me for 1 HOUR 😳 (My appointment time for RF would be 90-120 minutes). Currently, my patient's concerns are: 1. Hyperpigmentation - IPL 2. Lower face heaviness (jolws and submental fullness) - RF 3. Fine lines and pores - Resurfacing More I look into devices and talk to reps from different companies, more confused I get 😵‍💫 Any guidance/recommendations? Thank you 🫶

Multi treatment device.. I am finally after 4.5 years highly looking at acquiring my first laser device. I have had demo with Morpheus… I don’t think it’s right for my population and would sit idle more than utilized. My top option, loving Sciton BBL heroic and Moxi. That platform has been recommended to me by many offices nationally. I went down for a skin ceo seminar, met a lot of practices in other areas that had wonderful things to say about the platform and how it “changed their practice” all for the better. It’s always scary looking at a device. Purchase the wrong device and it could sink your practice.
Consult Fees: Free or Paid?
When I first started, I didn’t charge a consult fee because I needed to get people in the door. Eventually, I began charging $125, which goes toward any service. The pros of free consults are that you’ll attract more people, and if your consult is strong, most will book because they feel a natural obligation to reciprocate. The cons are the no-shows, since people don’t feel committed when it’s free. In the early years, I accepted no-shows as part of the process because the majority who did show up became clients. As you grow, you’ll want to introduce either a consult fee or a no-show fee, for example a free consult but a $125 fee if they don’t show. Both models work—it just depends on where you’re at in your journey.

I used to perform free consultations for the same reasons that Dan stated for the first four years was to get people in the door. I currently charge a flat $100 fee for consultation that if a service is booked will go towards that client service (this has worked out well). When I was offering free consultations, I do agree that there is a lack of investment from your client if they do not show up, they do not care, your time has been officially wasted, and most of us cannot get somebody within the door within five minutes of sending out a mass Instagram post or text message, so we end up twiddling our thumbs for that 30 min to 1 hour time block. Also, I have seen that establishing a consultation fee set you up for more success with a more serious clientele who value your time and their time and understand that your time costs money and you are also a business. Value yourself, value your time, value your service, value your clients, and your clients will value you.
