Wednesday Rotor roundup
Today let’s talk about weather! More importantly not pushing the weather!!! We have all been there in our Careers… whether it be a pushy ski guide, pressure from the client, cranky drillers that want a ride home off the side of a mountain in a snow storm! etc etc… it’s important to “go with your gut” and trust your instinct. I myself have turned away from an approach or two heli skiing because you get those “spidy tingles” and something doesn’t feel right. There’s always some kind of external pressure to get the job done or to satisfy the client or whatever it may be. But in the end it’s you sittin in that seat making the decisions that are going to determine if you’re gonna go home to your family after your shift. I hate to be that blunt about it but that’s just how it is. The point being to not push the weather! We all have had the “go home itis” and of course the weather is always no bueno on crew change day! But sometimes we push just to get that extra day home with the fam. End of the day it’s on you to trust those spidy tingles and turn around or land and wait it out if the weather is getting marginal. Fly safe and have fun!!! Pic is from yesterday in the field

I remember one time Jordan and I leaving a camp job at Mariana Lake first thing in the morning to get home in "1/2 mile" vis with blowing snow. I went first and quickly realized how bad it was when I heard Jordan lifting off. I had to turn around but was keeping good radio communication with Jordan until I said "ok I just crossed the powerline" and hear a reply back "umm so did I...." and then we both got pretty quiet.
