New video is up!
The new conversation with Steve is LIVE right now 🔥 Energy is the blind spot almost every economic model still pretends does not exist. Steve walks through the 1-for-1 lock between energy and GDP, why AI may never scale the way the hype claims, and why he thinks the Hunger Games outcome is more likely than the optimistic one. This one has to be a must watch so watch it right now! Drop your take in the comments on YouTube and let’s get this in front of as many people as possible tonight.

So great you follow Steve Keen! He's much maligned by many of his contemporary Neoliberal economists.. His arguments, however, and the record since the turn of the century- especially since 2008, can't be credibly refuted anymore.. I think Keen and the " Biophysical" economists are 👉 in the direction of the future and if radical changes are not made soon in the status quo, catastrophic consequences may unfold in the next 20 years .
New video just went live! 🤩
Keir Starmer just became the sixth UK prime minister to resign without finishing his term. Every headline asks what he did wrong. Steve says that is the wrong question. Think about it: six prime ministers, left and right, all promised to fix the economy and all failed the same way. When that many people fail at the same task, the problem is not the people. It is something underneath them, and it is private debt. 😬 Everyone watches government debt. But private debt, what households and businesses owe, is what actually drives crises. In Britain it sat under 60% of GDP for a century, then trebled to 180%, pouring into housing and shares while wages stalled. That squeeze is what keeps breaking prime ministers. This video is worth your 20 minutes 👉 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TzvAtOOfhuo&views

Actually his sharpest criticism is of the Neoliberal Order of Reagan/ Thatcherism 80's which was a radical laissez faire offshoot though still encompassed by neoclassical econ from the early 20th century..
Simon Michaux's Excel file
My friend and colleague Simon Michaux joined the course today, and in the discussion after my lecture on Ravel, he told us of his work to quantify the minerals needed to create a non-fossil fuel based economy. The bottom line is that the minerals needed far exceed our current output of minerals, and in many cases exceed the minerals available in the Earth's crust. He agreed to share his Excel file with us, and I hope over time he'll also port his data and analysis to Ravel, where it will be far more transparent than in Excel, even given the care Simon has taken to make the data auditable.

Simon Michaux's discussions with Nate Hagens are humm dingers! Great addition to this group. I think he's mentioned you often, Steve!
Paul Krugman
When I started watching this interview I thought I’d disagree with everything he would say, but instead to my surprise I found Paul very humble and sympathetic person. And the only point I don’t agree with is his rejection of UBI because of high implementation cost. One question I expected by Lex is the Job Guarantee which is part of MMT. I think it would have been very interesting. https://youtu.be/OJQepiqSWvg

@Demetrios Gizelis .. UBI may be neccessary as a stop gap for millions of people, however, if there's a rapid de valuation of fiat and a rapid inflation a la Weimar. But, as a long haul plan under CBCD's or FED issued digital currency that's programmable, it's orwellian, imo.

@Bijou Smith Neoliberalism sounds like a 'liberal dems" political label, but it's not. It's a form of full bore market driven economics and it's been the major econimic thinking since Reagan/ Thatcherism won the global sweepstakes in 1980 and its predatory end stages of capital monopolism is what's destroyed the US democracy anyway. Its destroyed the global democracies too as ultra concentrated wealth and power @ the top end has turned the parliaments of these EU/ US and other "democracies" into auction houses and exchanges for the corp. oligarchs, imo.
