Why do we drink even more after relapses?
I have given up a several times for weeks or months in the last years, only to reach for "just one" glass over a stressful or upsetting situation. And each time, more and bigger glasses! Bizarre.

@Colette Boyce Yep been there too so understand. Dry for a while, then aww a couple beers won't hurt, then maybe some wine at night, then back to my Big Blue Friend. L-Glutamine seems to have helped me in the past too. Make sure you take a multi vitamin and fish oil too daily.
BioRebalance
I started taking BioRebalance Restore on Sunday, and while I’m not sure I’ve noticed any major differences yet, there’s something motivating about knowing I’m intentionally supporting my brain with nutrients that may help with hormones, neurotransmitters, and some of the damage that 20 years of alcohol abuse has likely caused. It’s funny being someone who is health conscious, works out, cares about longevity, and does all sorts of things to improve my body…but still somehow finds a way to binge drink on the weekends. That contradiction has always stood out to me but now that I’m in my 40’s it’s even more apparent. Another big motivator for me is that my grandmother suffered from dementia before she passed, and my father now has full-blown Alzheimer’s. So there may already be some genetic risk there. It feels lime I’m playing with fire if I continue to drink! For those further along in alcohol-free living, what brain-health improvements have you noticed and what do you feel helped the most?

@Miles Orman I have been on BioRebalance for a month, so not long term either. But I can say that I agree with @Valerie Dowis that we are all taking a positive step by putting good things back that have been stripped. I do believe that it has helped my mood and stress levels too. Along with BioRebalance daily I take Alive Multi vitamin, Fish Oil, and Milk Thistle. I also take CBD Gummies if needed for stress or to help sleep. I take Alteril (double dose) the first few days of quitting, and then do not need it by night 4-5. Basically Alteril is just a big dose of melatonin but helps at least the going to sleep part.
Some days are still harder than others
I post a lot of the good stuff here - it’s always awesome to see the progress, to get out of the fog and feel alive again….but some days are still harder than others. The last 2 days I’ve had really strong cravings. Not for any other reason than the massive amount of stress I’ve had dumped on me at work the last 3 weeks. Stress is real but stress management is what’s important and I do pretty well for the most part. I’m strong, I’ve got a lot of grit, and I don’t get my feelings hurts by almost anyone but….I am a manager in a male dominated field. Have been for a really long time, it’s not new to me. This “team,” however, is new to me and I’ve never known so many man-babies to exist in one room. They’re known in for their toxic atmosphere, for running off managers…I won’t be run off, but their habitual “anonymous” reporting to HR and being investigated just gets old no matter who you are. Of course the claims have all been unfounded and I knew they would be, but it’s still the idea of being in a room where you never know who is going to smile to your face and turn on you behind your back. I hope after this last go-round, these guys start to straighten up. I haven’t caved, I got an iced vanilla latte with an extra shot of espresso instead, lol, and enough club soda to keep the company in business, but the craving to just numb it is still definitely there. Even this morning. I’m going to go and get some sunshine and do something productive in my wood shop, maybe mow. I won’t lie, I hate yard work 😂. It might have something to do with the fact I thought I had to be miss-I-can-do-it-by-myself and buy a country house on 5 acres. Lol. I do have horses on about half of it so that helps a smidge. Going to get through another day until the craving goes away. 💪🏽 I like to pinpoint my cravings now, so I can talk myself through what I ACTUALLY need. No, I don’t need beer to numb the fact that I’m feeling stressed and pressure from some boys who don’t like following policies and procedures. No way am I going to let people who don’t truly matter to me at the end of the day cause me to mess up my personal goals - they aren’t worth the spiral.

@Valerie Dowis Mowing for five hours? Wow! Last couple days I have started my old routine back of getting up between 6-7am to do yard work, or wash cars, or whatever. I feel way more centered and focused to have accomplished something before the real day starts. Now come Monday I need to block my work calendar so I have this time in the am, and also block time to get up from my desk during the day.
Day three going in the books tonight.
Alcohol free for 16 months and then went back to it for 10 months Just not worth it. My “why” has gotten bigger and bigger the older I’ve gotten and farther along I’ve come. Not worth the drain on rest, productivity, lack of energy, sleep, and everything else that goes along with it. Here to encourage others and be encouraged. Stick with it everyone! We got this!

@Buff Mengers Thanks for the heads up on the TryDry App. Sounds good. I'll check it out. Ya one of Chris' other e-mails about calories and costs got me thinking too. I was eating at least 2K of food per day, and then the drinks probably added another 2K on there. No wonder why I am 40 pounds over where I should be.
Chris' E-mails in May and June
Hey everyone, Just joined skool today. Been taking BioRebalance for about a month now, and working up the nerve to cut alcohol out. First of all, thank you Chris for the e-mails in May and June that actually spell out a lot of the struggles and chemistry behind this. Been following you for a while and it is finally making sense. So the e-mail on 6/2- What your body actually does during the first 30 days alcohol-free is the one that stuck, well and the long overdue visit to the Doctor for a physical. Years of heavy, ok so very heavy drinking, have taken their toll. Blood pressure high, cholestrol high, fatty liver, etc. Weigh too much, not working out etc. Started the 30 day Challenge last Monday 6/15, so on day 5 now. Being on BioRebalance for the past month I feel has helped at least start me down the road. A combo of Alteril (double dose nightly) and CBD Gummies for stress helped too. I am on a mission now to beat alcohol and get back in shape. Happy to be part of the community!

Hello, Dave S. Long time heavy drinker. Grew up around it, so thought that was normal. Later in my life now, and it's tme to change.
