A semi-loaded question
Ok my fellow musicians, this is my first Question for the Group, would like to get y'all's opinions. Here goes: Do you and/or your bands cross genres a lot, a little, or not al all? I'm not really talking about cross over hits like 'Copperhead Road' (one of my favorites, btw). I'm referring to the truly different genres, like 60s bubble gum pop to 90s grunge (an extreme example). If you do, how do you handle it? A set or mini set in each? Tempo based? Show/venue based? I like and perform most genres (no rap or modern hip hop)... I'm talking anything from Charlie Pride and Marty Robbins thru Aldo Nova and Bon Jovi, to Air Supply and the Little River Band. I'd just like to hear your thoughts!

One of the compliments I often get is how much "different stuff" I play - not tied to one genre. I go between classic rock, old country, new country, folk/folk rock, pop, indie, etc. When I get the question, "What do you play?" I follow with, "What do you like?", and 9 times out of 10, whatever their answer is, I play it. My tag line is "Springsteen to Stapleton, and everything in between". For my gig tonight, my first 5 are songs by: Elvis, Eagles, Johnny Cash, R.E.M., and Kenny Chesney.
OnSong Along - Sing Along Feature
I have a couple gigs over the next few weeks and plan to use a newer feature on OnSong (song management app). The OnSong Along feature allows me to share a QR code or link and the audience can use their phones to see the lyrics in real time to whatever song is currently selected on my iPad. Since my gigs are billed as sing along events, this is a game changer. If I enable the option, they can even request a song from among a selection of my library that I control. I see requests pop up and can add it to my set list. This will be my first time using this new feature. I’ll report back how it goes.

Thanks for that tip - I did not know OnSong had that feature. I plan on trying it at my gig this coming Friday.
🎤 Muso Question of the Week
What's a song you absolutely LOVE, but would NEVER play at a gig? Maybe it doesn't suit your voice, it's too obscure, goes on for nine minutes, has 14 chord changes before the first chorus, or you already know the audience would stare at you like you'd just started reading from the electricity bill. We all have songs we'd love to play if audiences weren't involved. What's yours, and why doesn't it make the setlist?

@Hugh McManners I've done it at an open mic, but it failed miserably at a gig. Patron requested Floyd - I did that one, insteead of Wish You Were Here. 😄 But a WYWH/Wonderwall mash-up sounds very intriguing.

For the Old Guard
Someone posted this on facebook. It's a meme by a guy named Adrian Coker. By the looks of his posts, he's been around a while. The more "seasoned" members will appreciate this...

I agree. 🤣
Mash Ups
I do three of them: Stand By Me/Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For; Three Little Birds/Drift Away; and (sigh) Brown Eyed Girl/I'm a Believer. I'd like to do more of them - give me some ideas!
