@Donna Macauley ehhhh.....I tend to disagree. I can easily here my mistakes clean. Sticks out like a sore thumb! The 1st and 2nd string especially. When I slap to the second channel on my amp (quite a bit of crunch, if I had other pedals, I'm sure I would here the mistakes less as long as my rhythm is bang on! Rhythm is King!) I would certainly here the extra strings ringing out, but not as clearly when I have it on clean. (I'de rather practice clean till it sounds mac daddy, then going to distortion and the like will not matter because my technique is as perfect as I can, through proper practice and still practicing). To my ears. And on video, it's a good idea to video yourself alot and take a look at your form and make sure it sounds the way it seems for your ears. My viewpoint. Not sure what Steve teaches on this. But this is what I have been taught. For power chords, I pretty much can hit clear I would say around 80% of the time. About the same for my E-shaped barre.....major and minor......technically A-Shaped minor Barr too since it's pretty much the same as E-Shaped major just root is on 5th string instead. Anyways, I'm babbling now. Rock on! To each their own. 🙂✌️

@Bug Bear absolutely, what works for you and what are your goals?? Many of them from hobby to enthusiast! From Country to Metal! From playing alone to playing with others. It's your journey and as long as you are having fun(moving forward would be nice in any scenario) then have at er! Hands down. I do love all music...just a thing for me. Rock/Blues and being able to teach it at beginner levels is the road I am on....years work ahead of me. As far as having the amp cranked, and actually have a good one, I haven't really experienced that one. But I do know I have the high end turned down alot when I'm playing 6th, 5th and 4th string(still in beginnings on 4th) power chords.....I don't need the top end just the bottom...in turn for me and the volume of sound I am working with I can reduce the sound of the mistakes easier. Or so it seems to be to me. But I don't have er cranked either. So there is that! Rock on! 😀 😎

No real preference here to old or new. If it gets my foot stomping and I'm a bobbing I like it!! However my preference for listening and genre is Rock/Blues. So many good bands that I like playing their songs, would be a considerable list. If it's Rock/Blues then I love it!! Rock on!
