@Kenna Cottman Awesome!! I think that “zealousness” is great for learning everything you can and absorbing everything, but it’s also good that when it comes to actually practicing, you’re sticking to an amount of information that’s not going to be overwhelming or confusing. Keep it up!!

@Jedidiah Nkonde Hi! Sorry I’m just seeing this now. If this is still an issue for you, the main thing I’d want to know is if your slide is in good condition. If it’s hard to move, then it needs some maintenance before you can really move it with less tension. If it is easy to move, the next thing I would check is to make sure you’re holding the slide with your fingertips, so you can use your finger and wrist joints (instead of just your elbows). If you need more help, please let me know!

@James Brave man I’m just wondering what everybody is working on musically right now. Like, are you working on high notes, sight reading, jazz improv (or a specific part of jazz improv like a specific tune you’re practicing)? I’m sure for a lot of people you’re working on a whole bunch of things at once, but I’m wondering if anybody’s been feeling stuck on one particular thing they’re working on and aren’t sure how to improve, then they can feel free to ask about it here. That’s all.

@Dairon Caro-Gaspar You're off to a good start. What you want to do is start improvising over certain scales/keys. What are some recordings that you like that stay in the same key for a long time? I would start be improvising along with the recordings, and pay close attention to which scales are going to work with the track you're playing with. If you give me some examples of tunes you like, I can help you know what notes/scales to start off practicing.

@Kaden Couch Ok. Well I can definitely help you with this. The first thing we need to do is find your level; what's not too easy or too hard. That's where you have to start learning and practicing from, and everybody starts in a different place. If you're finding theory confusing, I think you can start by just improvising over a track that stays on one chord and get used to playing using notes from that scale. Like find a Bb major backing track that just stays on that chord the whole time and practice improvising using only notes from that scale. If even that's too tricky, just start with 2 or 3 notes from the scale. When you get to the point that it's not too easy and not too hard, it becomes really fun to practice, as long as you can be patient enough to just be in the moment, and not in a hurry to add a note or technique that makes it start to feel confusing again. Let's work on finding this level for you.
